hawk 250 exhaust glowing red

My bike has a k&n cone air filter and a full exhaust stock carb with mikuni 115 jet.
I have done what i was previously told to do by switching my stock jet too a mikuni 115 the pipe does not glow as bad but still noticeable at night. the bike runs way better with the jet I just don't know whether to worry about the glowing or not. Also what type of adjusters do the valves use I want to adjust those also and does anyone know the specs they need to be adjusted too. Thanks in advance

With the K&N filter and exhaust you may need to step up to 120. Do a plug chop and see what the spark plug looks like. If it's white your too lean. You want it to be a light brown.

The valves are standard tappets and locknut, adjust to 0.004 exhaust and 0.003 intake. If is still glowing that would indicate a lean condition.

Definitely adjust the valves and I can bet your exhaust will stop glowing. It sounds like your exhaust valve isn't seating and blowing either unburnt fuel or the combustion is escaping into the exhaust. You are going to burn the exhaust valve if you ride it like this for too long.

Specs. the Specs most of us run is .003" intake and .004 exhaust. CG125 pecs, which these are based on, is .003 for both, plus or minus .001.

Adjusters are a male square drive top and a lock nut. I just used a small adjustable wrench to hold the adjuster when tightening the lock nut, and turned the adjuster with my fingers.

Make sure to adjust the valves on a "stone cold" engine. In other words, make sure it sat overnight.

Beyond that, do a google or youtube search for "Hawk 250 valve adjustment" and you will find plenty of information.

Also, while other suggestions are not entirely inaccurate, I would adjust the valves before trying to fix or diagnose any other possible problems. You may find they disappear.

Depends on the type of plug you get. If you get a standard copper plug, stick to around .022 to .028" you could possibly run .030 on a copper". If you get an iridium plug, I run .8mm = .032" without any misfires, and some run a .9mm/.036 pregapped plug without any issues.

Speaking of spark plugs. I know I go overboard due to being involved with racing most of my life. But I do index the plug. I know You want to face the open gap of the plug towards the intake valve. Although minor, every little thing you can do to add performance adds up.
