VM26 pilot jet source? Best carb tutorial?

Should be getting my Hawk any day now.

I'm planning a "one thing at a time" approach, trying to perfect each mod and then moving on.

First up after engine oil and spark plug is the carb. I've got the carb and jet kit ordered, but whenever I search "vm26 pilot jet kit", I wind up confused. Is there a recommended kit? A good source?

How about a preferred tutorial or video? Preferably something along the lines of "symptom vs adjustment". I'm new to carb tuning, so any kind of "for dummies" resource would be appreciated.

As Megadan pointed out earlier, this is one area where Motocheez is lacking.

Thanks for looking.

I ended up getting a pilot jet from a local shop. Hey had asked I bring in the pilot jet from the carb so it could be compared to what was in stock. I wasn’t able to get the right size but what did get will work for now. (Ie. jetting was too large but I’m at least able to compensate with the mixture screw)

Myself and others have explained the symptom/adjustment approach many times here. On example here: http://www.chinariders.net/showpost....0&postcount=13

I highly recommend avoiding the cheap jet kits, and instead I suggest ordering them individually. The cheap jets are often incorrectly stamped or inconsistently sized, which when dealing with fractions of a MM, is a big deal. Genuine jets are best, but the OEM Equivalents from Jetsrus are good and can save you a few bucks.

Main Jets: N100.604: https://www.jetsrus.com/a_jets_by_ca...arge_round.htm

Pilot Jets VM28/486:
https://www.jetsrus.com/a_jets_by_ca...-486_pilot.htm

For main jets, realistically you can start off with 3 or 4. 105, 110, 115, and 120. The 120 is most likely too large, but if you plan to use your bike in colder months and you have all of the mods done to your bike, you may well find yourself using it. For full exhaust and intake mod the 115 is close to correct for most bikes. From there, you can order the "half" sizes to really dial it it - aka 112.5, 117.5 etc. I found the 120 too large, and the 115 worked great, but was a little on the lean side except on very hot days, so I went with a 117.5

Pilot Jets, 3 sizes work best on the Hawk depending on mods and elevation. 25, 27.5, and 30. The 25 and 27.5 work for 90% of applications, so likely you can order those two and be just fine.

Great resource! Thanks!

I got into a loop of searching and kept hitting the same results that were ultimately not as helpful.

I have the cheap jets on the way. I can zero in on the one I need and then upgrade. Most things say use a 110 until I do the exhaust upgrade and then change to a 115. So I'll try that. then I can get a better jet.

I'll get the two pilot jets today. Looks like the carb comes stock with a 20
