Hello from Oklahoma
Just wanted to say to the forum. I've waited a long time to get into the world of motorcycles, and now that I've been seriously thinking about it, I've been having dreams lately about this stuff?? Anyways, I have been reading some posts on the particular ride I want to start out on (Hensim Baja Phoenix 250 Cruiser.) I have found one locally that is a 2008 with 1.2K miles for 900. I'm very interested in it but just educating myself as much as possible; I don't trust a dealer to ask about something I want to buy.
I've signed up for the MSF course around here and taking my time to research and save up the cash from working 2 jobs (work M-F around 11-12 hrs a day and want the weekend to ride free from it all.) Great information guys and hopefully I can offer something to the group. Best regards, Neohistory |

Welcome to the forum!
If you are good at tinkering that would be a great first bike. The weak spot in that model is the transmission. If the tranny is going to fail it probably would have done so by this time, but make sure it shifts smoothly and positively and does not pop out of gear. Other issues are the shift linkage, and IIRC the kickstand, but those are easily correctable.

Welcome; we are glad you joined us!
FastDoc gave you good information. I would check to make sure the bike shifts well, and does not pop out of gear. Spud

Appreciate the info Fast. I will probably get time this weekend to go take a look. I wonder though if I'm even able to do a test drive if I don't have the M endorsement on my license? I'm guessing not, and considering I have not ridden a motorcycle prior to signing up for the MSF course the other day, what is the best way to test the shifting without being able to move it?

Have the owner ride it around past you shifting through all the gears or bring a friend with an endorsement.
