ZS165fml engine - 2020 Titan DLX

Does anyone know much about these engines and what I'm working with? Just picked up a used Titan DLX and am unsure of how to go about upgrading my engine. Is it a 223cc?

I feel like I've seen conflicting opinions on whether CRF230f cams and big bore kits will fit. What are my upgrade options here? I have contacted Mr. Henner, but is that the only route to go with getting the most possible out of these engines?

I'm looking to increase my top end and horsepower to the most possible (within reasonable reliability limits).

You will need to remove the head and physically measure the bore. I owned the 2919 Venom X22R and 2020 Venom Ghost. Both engine were stamped 165fmm . The X22R had the same bore as the CRF230f but the Ghost had a larger bore. Does you engine have a site glass? If not then it's more than likely the larger bore.

According to this chart, FWIW, it is a 200cc motor (FML = air cooled, motorcycle, 200cc displacement). What year is the bike? Also, it may have had some random motor swapped in when the original one blew up. Do you know this particular bike's history?

Some of these engines were not stamped correctly. Good example was the X22R. My 2019 X22R had a 223cc engine with a 65mm bore. The 2020 X22R even though it had the same stamp of 165FMM it had a 229cc engine with a 67mm bore same as on my Ghost. One of our members had discovered this when he bought a big bore kit and cam for his 2020 X22R.

Oh wonderful

Considering that the marking scheme does not allow for 223 or 229cc, maybe they round down for 223 (FML) and round up for 229 (FMM). But only sometimes?!

And BTW richpiano, going from a 223cc to a 229cc will do nothing detectable at all for power. If you have a 65mm bore, it is a 6cc difference! So don't bother with that bore kit that Meathammer is selling.

Is it an OHC or OHV motor? If OHC, you can have the cam ground down a little on the flat part of the lobes so that when adjusted properly, the valves give a bit more lift. How far you can go with this will depend on piston clearance. That plus your VM22 carb with proper jetting is about as far as you can go without dumping bigger bucks into it. Personally I'd say swap in a true 250cc motor and sell the 223cc to help pay for it. Or keep the 223 as a backup.
