East Texas Hawk 250

Hello everyone. I've been lurking this forum on and off for a while now and finally worked up to buying a Hawk 250. Found a cheapie on Cragslist with 150 miles on it for $500. It just needed a new battery and a few adjustments. Now I've never ridden a motorcycle before so I thought this would be a good inexpensive starter. Had some fun on it for the past few days and ended up going down on it today. So my question for you guys is do you think this will buff out?

Now I don't have the tools to bend this back into place so I wanted to know if you guys know of any jap (or any big brand) bike brake levers that would fit this model? I know I can get an OEM one from RPS for $40 but from a quick google search I saw there are tons of jap bike aftermarket that go for around the same price. So I figured I should upgrade if possible.

As long as you have some patience and use a torch to heat the metal you can bend that pedal back into shape.

As far as aftermarket goes, I have looked into it a bit, but not taken the steps to find anything that works yet. No matter what, it is most likely that some sort of modification would be needed in order to make one work. At a minimum a relocation of the rear master cylinder would likely be needed.

An alternative option, and one I have done myself when I broke my rear brake pedal, was to use a TT250 unit. They have a slight change in angle compared to the Hawk, so the adjustment will need to be changed. The other modification is simple, and requires that you either drill a small hole for the brake light switch spring, or convert to a pressure switch banjo bolt (what I did).

Thanks MegaDan, I'll have to look into that. So are the parts for all of the china bikes fairly similar then? Like would I be able to use one from a Bashan Brozz as well?

I bent mine like that my first trip off road. I bent it back with my hands while it was still on the bike. It's not harden steel.

Thanks Jerry, I guess I'll give that a shot first before committing to buying one. Did you have to heat it up with a torch like Dan mentioned? Or just forced it back into shape?

I was out riding in the middle of the spillway so no real tools with me. I just grabbed it with my hands and bent it right back in place.

it might not be hardened, but heating the metal will reduce fatigue and keep it from potentially failing later on. You dont need to, but it is recommended.

Welcome to the forum , great that you are out and about on the bike. I think a medium grade polishing compound should work wonders on the brake pedal ( smart ass ). I bent mine a little on the TBR7 and straightened it out by hand on the trail( not near as bad as yours ). If/when i need a pedal i will look for something with a foldable end bit or weld on something that springs out of harms way when you have a little mishap.
