I think I may have her talked into this.
http://athensga.craigslist.org/mcy/2228726339.html
It has some issues, but its a honda. Dash is dead. No key. Has switches. No title, but it is old enough to not need it here. Sticky throttle cable. Sounds like the bystarter is not working. Panels have scratches cracks. Thinking of offering $200. I think that I have my wife talked into this one. I sold one of my tractors so I have cash ready.

Probably be a good little commuter when you get it fixed up. What kind of top speed does a 150cc scooter have?

A commuter is all I need. The roads I take are 35-45mph.
The elite 150 is rated for 64mph. That is fast enough. I'll put some knobbies on and dual sport it. I think a carb clean and fix the bystarter and it will be ridable. Add a bike speedometer and I should be set. The plastic and lack of key is not a big deal to me. Seller has registration papers, just no title. GA does not require one on a 1985. Also old enough to be registered as a antique. Doesn't save any money, but I get a cool tag with on old bike on it.

That looks totally fixable . You know it runs so it probably just has a clogged carb like you say. Some elbow grease and some eBay time you can have a decent machine for less than $400. If your wife gets used to you riding the scooter on the street she may be in favor of you moving to a small D/S after some time. You'll easily make a few bucks off the Honda.

In WA I have antique plates on my GS. No taxes or tabs to worry about ever again so it saves money here at least.

I think that I would be rolling for under $400. If it works I would just ride it and then when it comes time probably sell it and break even.
Its a honda. Would only use it 2-3 days a week. I have to carry kids other days. But that would be about a 150 miles a week that I don't use a car. Allen

I love the old 150 Elites. You can really wake up the GY6 in it if you want, because there's a ton of high performance stuff available. The starter fluid reference might be because of electric choke failure; you can either replace it or mod it with a mower-style primer.
I've been on the hunt for one of these for awhile, but beat examples where I live are $1000.00. I've always wondered what one would look like naked, in the style of a Ruckus.

 She is going to let me go look. My goal is under $300.
I think that a carb clean and fix the e-choke (bystarter) and it will be running good. The dash is probably the most expensive problem. But I can ride without it.

Good luck, Allen! I hope you can acquire the scooter for a good price.

X2 on good luck!
I'd be tempted to get rid of the dash and use a generic motorcycle speedo or a digital bicycle unit. I hereby request a project thread if you are successful in purchasing this scoot.

I will start a thread if I get it. The dash will likely be replaced with a bicycle speedo or something.

Its mine. $300. The dash is NOT dead. Maybe the speedo cable is broken,
HIgh miles 20K. Needs a good cleaning, lubing. Tires a good for awhile. Lights work. It cranks, but I didn't start it. 40 degrees and raining. No starter fluid.

Good deal! It looks right at home in your Ranger . I bet you get the motor sorted in one night's work for little or no money. Then some TLC and a trip to the DMV and you're good to go! And for less than the price of a decent bicycle! Well done!

Tag and insurance will be another $100.
Possible parts to make it run right. $100. Months to pay itself back. 5 All I need now is a members only jacket. 80s truck, 80s scoot, 80s clothes. Should have it going this week. I plan to start riding it on the 27th when my schedule changes. I will work on it until then getting everything right. To start it has 2 switches. No key. I plan to find a key setup, but that will work. Low risk of theft where I park.
