Shineray GY7 CDI replacement

Has anyone had to replace their CDI on a GY7 and what did you use ?

I recently ordered a new CDI ( after been towed 30 km out of the bush and got 2 units. The cdi is a DC type and is used on the GY6 motors also.

the first unit is one with a adjustment screw to change the timing and came with no instructions. Pluged in it makes the bike run great but I have no clue about the adjustment process for it. Any info or experiances with this type of unit would be great

The second unit is so advanced that the bike is hard to start and idle. It pings hard and runs way hot. removed it and pluged in first again and it runs great again

any info would be great. of a side note the shineray GY7 has been a great bike so far.

Not a clue. Where did you order them from?

I have a stock and "performance" cdi for my shineray gy6, the stock has a different timing curve that makes it start easier and pull harder down low, but the performance one pulls harder on the top end, and gets harder to start....LOL i have both of them mounted on the bike yet, and still deciding which one i prefer...LOL

I ordered from china parts depot. I know ask for instructions.. but I did and the unit were never shipped with any. I've been checking the gy6 forums and found no info either.

The unadjustable unit I have will pin out the tach so fast it almost could bend the needle but like you said it just won't idle worth beans so I really don't like it.
