Airplane ride report. Oregon Coast.

My buddy Monty, his wife Lisa, Linda and I flew Monty's new airplane, a Beechcraft Debonaire, to Florence, Oregon on Saturday.

Linda, Roger and Roger's wife Kristie and I plan to drive there this summer with the motocross bikes and ATV's for the women to play on the 50 miles or so of sand dunes and beaches they have there and I wanted to scout it out a bit.

Plus it was nice to take the girls to the ocean. We had a nice lunch, went to a carnival/fair, and toured the town. We had a long walk on the beach and watched the motorcycles. The women-folk shopped.

There was a big motorcycle rally in town that weekend. It was like a mini Sturgis but very polite and friendly.

Monty's Beechcraft is fast. At about 200 MPH we made it there in less than 2 hours. It's all fun and games until you pull up to the gas pumps though.... We shared the expenses and the flying. Indeed I was in an instructor role as this is a new airplane for Monty, and much higher performance and complex than his Cessna was. I love to teach and I love to fly so it was awesome.

The sand dunes start right outside of town.

Happy pilots. I was driving when this pic was taken, hence the serious look.

Cruising up the beach.

Linda loves me. :P

Happy couple.

Harp seals.

Monty and Lisa.

The carnival from the ferris wheel.

Bikes.

Coming in to land.

Mt. Hood. Is God an awesome Creator or what?!

Happy owner/pilot.

I wanted to go cross country skiing in Glacier National Park. I'll bring Linda there soon God willing.

Florence is a terrific spot. We've been there a couple of times, and we've always had a blast on atv's across the bridge.

I've never travelled there at 200mph though. 8O

Have you scouted Sand Lake yet? It's much closer to you.

I don't know about Sand Lake....

200 in a plane in smooth air gives almost no sensation of speed or movement at all.

55 in a minivan seems faster. Especially at night or in the clouds. It's uncanny.

Sand Lake is well worth a look. It's just a few miles South of Tillamook, and the area is amazing.

Thanks!

That would be closer.

We picked Florence also because there is a casion for the girls to play (waste (their) money) at and plenty of shopping and accomadations for them, plus the ocean. May work this place in on the way as we will be passing by there.

Thanks for posting the nice photos, Doc. The bikers were dressed pretty heavily; it gets cold on the Oregon Coast, even in summer, let alone May!

Harp seal.
