"It'll get faster" ????
I have an acquaintance who is really into dirt bikes (big fours only, he disdains China bikes) who told me something I'm a little skeptical about.
I was telling him about my UM DTF -200 and that it only had 600 miles on it when I got it, and he started talking about how after its broken in it will get faster. Can someone explain why this would be? Or just hoist the BS flag if that's the case.... |

I would say that it is broken in. There is some truth in it. The new tight engine will have some more drag until the rings have seated and pretty much broken in.

the only way it will get noticeably faster is with rider improvement/twisting the throttle further.

A bike will perform better after a new engine is "broken in." However, improved riding skills will yield far better increases in performance than any engine "break in" period.

I've never really noticed a bike "getting faster" after break in, usually they just run smoother and shift better once all the parts are worn in together. Sometimes they even start a little better once everything has loosened up a little but I've never noticed any performance gains.
