Harbor Freight 8" Folding Saw

I always carry my Harbor Freight 8" Folding Saw when I am riding the trails.

http://www.harborfreight.com/8-inch-...saw-97343.html

The saw was handy several days ago when I encountered this fallen tree while riding my CRF250X.

After moving one half of the tree off the trail, I continued riding to the top of the mountain. Don't leave home without the HF 8" Folding Saw.

Doing some research on folding saws, I discovered the following, informative video.

Thanks for the vid, Spud. Would you say that your HF saw resembles any from the video?

The HF saw cuts pretty well, but the plastic, locking mechanism is the weak point. I exchanged my first, HF folding saw for the current saw after the locking tab broke.

I agree with the video review posted above. I think I am going to purchase a Corona folding saw for my backpack. I would rate the folding saws in the following order.

1) Corona Razor Tooth Saw ($17.98 at Lowes)
2) Dollar Tree Folding Saw ($4)
3) Lowes Garden Plus Folding Saw ($3.98)
4) Harbor Freight Folding Saw ($5.99)

Based upon the video review, I wouldn't buy any of the other folding saws. Also, because of the weak, plastic locking tab, I wouldn't buy another HF folding saw.

Here's a link to the Lowes website for the Corona Razor Tooth Saw.

I could have used one of those last weekend in the Blue Mountains. Good idea.

I bought my HF folding saw last year after I needed to backtrack because of a fallen tree crossing the trail. I entered the trail when it was early evening. I knew I had enough time to backtrack, if the trail was obstructed. When I was about 1/2 mile from the trail's exit, I encountered the fallen tree. I backtracked the entire length of the trail, and returned to pavement as the twilight was departing. The very next day I went shopping for a folding saw. If I had a folding saw the previous day, I would have quickly felled the log and exited the trail, instead of spending an extra 2 hours reversing my course.

My folding saw has been very handy a number of times since that incident. If you ride in the woods, you will be wise to purchase a good folding saw. I'm going to purchase a Corona Razor Tooth Saw to replace my Harbor Freight 8" Folding Saw.

Last weekend I had to turn back while riding a beautiful single track trail in the Blues due to a fallen tree. This tree was an old groth one though, and even a conventional chain saw would not have cut it.

I checked a Dollar Tree today, but they don't carry that saw at this time. I'll pick one up from Lowes or HF, next time I'm in the US.
