first official day of new bikes next 7 months
so today was the first day of ,my new to me , zongshen gs250's next 7 months.. Monday thru Friday 8.9 miles to school the 5.5 miles to work then 7.2 miles home.. then on weekends just to work with a round trip of 14.4 miles...
needless to say I will be riding the heck out of this bike..all the way thru the hot hot phoenix summer then well into the colder desert winter which if like last winter ..it got down to the low 30's... maybe wife will give me a ride in her car when it gets that chilly.. so I will try to start a weekly updated thread of overall performance and maintained parts. day 1.. very average. found out there are 3 different speed zones I cruise thru with 22 stop lights.. 35mph/40mph and a nice little 50mph section.. the bike preformed flawlessly keeping up with all the maniac speeds people do here In town.. at one point in 5th gear I did hit the rev limiter.. I looked down and was doing the fastest I have gone on the bike..63mph with a rpm of right around 6200.. of course surrounded by traffic just going with the flow.. -side note- a few students.that ride bullet bikes cracked a few jokes.. but once I took off and made it to first light pretty damn quick , keeping up with them in a slower 40mph speed limit.. sometimes it's like a raceway leaving school, they all had not a damn thing to say.. it is cool other bikes on the roads still give me the hand out gesture, unlike on my old scooter I got the ignore.. stay tuned for next update.. mileage is now 1724. Phoenix traffic does baffle me, and this coming from someone who learned to drive and lived in L.A. for over 20 years. The fastest leg of my commute on a 2-lane county road here in Yuma is 50 MPH, and I often feel like I am the a&#hole holding traffic up at 60 to 65 MPH,LOL

I think you are the man who will prove the reliability of the ZS250GS motorcycle, SkiBum. Thanks for starting this report.

day 2
2nd day ride report..
Interesting ride today.. I used Endomondo app for my android phone to gps and map my trip.. About 3/4 way there was a construction steel cover over a trench in the street.. the moment I hit it there was a rattle from the front end down by the tire.. Once I got to school I was able to inspect.. Crap.. broke the 2 little plastic flange that held the fender to its steel mount by 2 bolts on each side..(what a crappy design..) here is a pic of the damage.. and A quick stop at true value and I got 4 new 1/4" x 1 1/2" allen button heads and 4 nice fender washers.. painted them black and they actually look pretty dang good.. I have looked around on the bike and noticed every piece of plastic has the same design.. I have a feeling as the ride goes on I will be doing this same replacement to all the hold downs :( oh well its easy to fix.. 14.99 miles one way and I drive right by the place I work so its a simple ride to school then back the exact same way to goto work then home.. mileage 1745 Last edited by bsskibum; 05-22-2013 at 02:34 AM. That's a good fix, implemented in true, China Riders fashion. You are a kindred soul, Skibum.

That graph is pretty cool. Is Endomondo primarily intended for running?

It certainly does the trick. It even tells you how many calories your bike burned.

mellow ride today a little breezy..
can really tell the 330lbs bike is very light!! after adjusting the chain and airing up the tires to recommended 40lbs the bike seems alot more responsive.. I keep hitting the rev limiter.. -note to self- its not a full on bullet bike.. quick but not rocket fast... light on throttle!! notice a slight squeak front front brakes.. will look into it after school tomorrow after school heard a rubbing noise as I came to a stop about half way to school this morning.. guess the metal plate on the road jarred more than I first noticed.. the little clip that holds the brake line close to the speedometer cable broke(snapped) so it was touching the tire a tad.. NO damage just a slight scuff, caught it before it became a situation.. reached into my backpack of goodies and a little zip tie fixed that problem! I also need to clean her up..alot of dirt and road grime on these roads!! mileage 1774 |

If you have the "standard," Chinese, front brake caliper, fixing the squeak is easy. You might enjoy reading the following thread.

1241 miles...
tightened chain... checked tire air pressure lubed chain.. tightened a few body panel bolts... (rattling started to annoy me) (the roads in phx are not smooth..) runs great... gettign right around 65mpg.. likes to run right around 5000k at about 51mph and the heat is starting to cook.. 110F today potential adjustment help needed..... seems to bog a little when at a steady speed and I roll the throttle to pass.. might need to lift or drop the clip a notch? |

Whatever you choose, try to make only one change at a time. I'd drop the clip one notch and see if it gets better or worse.
