i know that if you install an aftermarket dash or temp gauge, they make things that can bolt to the head using a head bolt or the spark plug to moniter temps... i have a Trailtech vapor gauge on my kawasaki that has that... kinda nice to have, working on one for the shineray that i have too...LOL

There is a simpler mod and cheaper. Just go to your electronic shop and ask for a thermal switch operating at about 120 deg C and connect to a warning light.

Trailtech has a spark plug thermistor gasket that hooks up to the Vapor, or if all you want is a CHT gauge, they have that too.

The oil cooler that Humanbeing pointed to is about $37.00 US. There are two styles of that particular cooler, and the other variety has cooler ports that are angled. That might be advantageous in your case.

Unknown. I've never tried one.

You got me thinking now, one of these could help me out a bit on the melting gearbox side of things.

I have this temp gauge on my Ural. Just monitoring the left cylinder as it is suppose to be the one that runs hottest. Installs under the spark plug so make sure it is the right one for your plug thread diameter.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Trail-Tech-T...-/360834770780 Need to get one for my DF250RTB See temp up to 420 F when running at 65 MPH with my Ural. So no need for an oil cooler. It doesn't get that hot just idling at a stop light , actually cools down to 320 F. Last edited by Barnone; 07-13-2019 at 09:11 PM. |

You can also consider such type of thermometer:

Very interesting Barnone.
Airplane (also aircooled pushrod horizontally opposed engines) CHT's run in the mid to upper 300's at 75% power with usual outside air temps of 40-80 degrees. I adjust the mixture to as lean as I can get, or peak exhaust gas temp, keeping the hottest cylinder head below 380 degrees. I try for 375. The redline is not until 465 degrees but I never operate over 400.
