Flywheel too light to charge battery and run lights?
I have a full light kit on my bike as well as electric start. I was perplexed for the longest time as to why my battery would not charge and the lights were always dim. I replaced all the components of the charging system to no avail.
It then came to me that my flywheel might be too light. I believe I have a YX 125cc engine. has anyone else had a similar problem? I would like to increase the weight of my flywheel but I do not know where to start. Anyone have any suggestions? |

Sorry for the late reply. The one I have is at the link below. Or at least it looks identical.

After reviewing the stators, I am guessing mine does not have enough "poles" to generate the power required for the lights and the battery?

Do you own a dirt bike, or a dual sport bike? Did your bike have a headlight as stock equipment? The stator in the photograph is typical of one installed in a dirt bike which doesn't have a headlight.
Indeed, that type of stator doesn't have sufficient poles and wire windings to produce enough electricity to charge a battery and power a headlight.

The picture attached is how my bike came from the factory. It came with the light kit on there. It came with a regular dirt bike stator. I wish I would have known this years ago! It kept me from riding it on the street and only on the trails :( I see the direct fit link, but how do I purchase from TaoBao? Also, thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Do you guys think this stator would fit even though it is for a gy6? I am very excited about this! I have been trying to figure this out for awhile and now I believe I have it solved thanks to your help. I really do appreciate this. |

"ALL dc/ 2 coils" above is fastest way if the flywheel still in working order.

I am looking at the all DC and I am wondering how I hook it up to my 5 wire system. I am sorry for the late reply, I just got super busy!
From the wiring diagrams it looks like the blue/white cable is the same from the 4 to 5 wire system. The black/red cable does not exist in the 4 wire system. I am assuming the black cable is the ground. The only problem I see is that there are two yellow cables in the all DC 2 coil one. Are these two yellow cables the yellow and white cables seen in the 5 wire diagram? |

I actually had a crazy idea. I have two complete stators and I was thinking about combining the two larger coils that I have. Ill attach pictures of what I am thinking. Please let me know what you think.
The new stator has both the lights/charing running off the same large coil in picture 1. The little black coil just has the red/black wire that runs to the CDI. In picture 3, I am thinking about having one of the coils charge the battery while the other coil runs the lights and is hooked up black/red cable that runs to the CDI. The only problem I see with this is that there might be too much power running to the CDI. The following pictures - 1. New stator that I bought months ago to try and remedy the issue 2. Coil salvaged from other stator 3. What the new stator looks like (No wiring/soldering has been done yet) |
