Once you gut the cat you could always bring it to a muffler shop and have them weld it up if you don't have access to a welder. I'm not sure JB weld will hold up with the vibration from the motor. But at the same time I would be curious to see how weld the JB weld would hold up.

Catgut complete and removed the exhaust clamp. I bought a $100, 90 amp welder from harbor freight and did the welds myself. The welds are'nt pretty but fuctional with no leaks.

Uni brand air filter 42mm and crankcase vent 1/2" pipe fitting. I removed stock airbox, cat and and stock muffler and slipped on a 23" glasspack.

did you replace the air box with some type of plastic guard so that you're not slinging mud back up in there? That's the primary reason I left mine.

what welder did you get and how did it do for you? I'm wanting to get one. a long time ago I had a cheap stick welder which did not work out so well due to limited power. it didn't seem to want to properly melt the two ends of metal for a good bond. (this coming from a VERY rank amateur!)

To prevent debri from rear wheel I fabricated sheet metal guard. See pic:
I purchased the flux core wire feed welder. Works well for the price and my welding inexperience. |
