i use a 6"drop receiver, that works just fine for lowering the rack, also get yourself a couple of 6" turnbuckles with hooks on them. you can hook them from the tabs on the carrier to your chain loops on the truck, this will completely eliminate any movement in the carrier when your traveling. just wanted to say after the 18,330 mile summer trip last year with one of the carriers i would whole heartedly endorse it. the only thing i found was to ratchet strap one side to the bottom of the bumper to get rid of any wiggle in the reciever.
