Depending on the position, it is either pulled or compressed to the point where it begins stretch or compress. This is the yeild strength factor. NAU has an excellent Civil and Structurial Engineering Program. My wife graduated as a Civil Engineer, and still has some good connections. Still it would scare me if it only tested at 2500 PSI. But.. It wouldnt suprise me.

I would also like to add that our bikes like most use thin tubes anyway and the tubing will most likely flex or break before a weld would. Its sorta like screwing down balsa wood, the wood is the weakest link =)
