New Eagle 250

Just got a new Lifan 250. They call it the Eagle 250. I got it to save on gas and it has a 27" seat height. Since I'm only 5'0" tall, that comes in handy.
I got the thing assembled, but I'm having problems with the carb. It won't idle. Runs great at higher RPM's.
I also got saddle bags for accessories. The quality control is pretty bad. The holes on the frame don't match up with the attachment points on the bike.
I haven't licensed it yet, so I can't really take it out of my neighborhood. I hope to get the right paperwork next week.

Welcome to the forum. Is that a street bike or a scooter?

The idle probably needs to be turned up/needle raised in carb too.

It's a street bike. Kinda in the same category as a Honda Rebel 250.
Actually I made a typo. I got the bike "in the box" and my neighbor helped me to assemble it.
When I first fired it up, I smelt varnish. So I was kinda thinkin' that there was so old gas in it. Maybe the low idle jet is clogged. I bought some Chevron Techron this morning and gave it a healthy dose. It seems to be getting better, but still has a ways to go. It bogs down when you first give it gas unless you're running at a higher rpm.
It also came with a broken brake light switch. The dealer/seller has already sent a new switch.
It still needs so tweaking, but I'm hopeful.

The varnish smell may be the coating on the exhaust/engine burning off.

Your carbs most likely needs some tuning. The idle is probably set too low and the carb needle needs to be raised. I am not sure if the street bikes use the same carbs.

The bog is probably the lean issue from the needle to low. The factory sets them that way for emissions.

The carb is a Mikuni. The bowl is located on the side, not bottom. The "exhaust" or outlet is on the bottom and Y's down to feed both cylinders. Weird.

It only has one screw adjustment. I guess that's the idle. I really don't see a fuel/air adjustment. There is a little slot in the body of the carb. It's recessed like a set screw and gold/brass colored. I figure that's a jet. I really don't want to mess with that.

What's a good idle speed? The bike doesn't have a tach. How do you suggest measuring the idle speed? I know a good bit from reading, but don't have a lot of practical hands on.

My owners manual recommends changing the oil at 1000km. I see in the discussions people changing it much sooner. Any suggestions from the community?
Also, I don't have a dealer nearby. Where can I purchase a filter?

I got my tag and registration today. No problems what so ever!!!
I had to get a bill of sale and Cert of Origin from the vendor, but no problems.
Hopefully I can finish up the final details of getting the thing ready to ride and put some miles on it this weekend.

Hi Cheryl

Welcome to ChinaRiders!!!
From the other posts your bike is like a Yamaha Route66/Virago 250 or American Lifan C25/LF250. If you have questions feel free to contact me.
