I would disagree with this. Kick starting with the pumper carb is much easier thanks to that little squirt of fuel. You basically prime the motor before ever turning it over by twisting the throttle once or twice. Easy way to basically get an instant fire on the first kick.

Well the storm is fixed. Got the new voltage regulator/rectifier today and that solved it. It actually charges a bit high now lol. It stays right about 15.2v now at the battery. Only cost me $9, didn't feel like going though the warranty route and having to wait so I grabbed one off amazon.
Tried to put my pumper carb on, but it's not pumping... If you manually move the plunger full travel it will squirt gas, but the action of the cam will not do anything. But thats another thread lol.

15.2? That's very high. Is that at 5krpm?
As for the pumper not "pumping" That should be easy to solve. If you want to put it in an appropriate thread my PZ30B Pumper thread would be a great place to discuss the issue.

A pumper or non stock carb is the same inside the slide area and jetting etc. No reason a stock carb can't easily be kick started with choke and correctly jetted/tuned etc. Yes I see the point of the extra squirt of fuel. My bad.... |

Maybe tune carb with stock cable first to get jetting right or close before adding pumper in the mix. Second thing is the cables tend to float above the carb and not seated in the tube/nibe, push it down and cable tie the cable to the frame so the outer cable doesn't move down into the carb part as you throttle on. |

The stock carb on my Storm(set properly) would not hardly kickstart, if at all. the pumper does, I have been riding dirt bikes since the 80's and all of them had kickstart with no starters and no issues starting. This is the first bike I could not consistently start kicking it.

Stayed at about 15.2 from idle up, was done dealing with it for the night but tomorrow I'm going to check it with the headlight on and see if a load brings it down some.

I almost wonder if the sense circuit (aka signal wire) is disconnected or otherwise shorted? That might explain why your last one died so quickly. It is the black wire on the reg/rec connector.

That's the thing, it's in the bike harness but not in the rec/reg's plug on either. Just green, pink, yellow and red. Maybe they are using the red load line as the reference.

Nah, the red wire is just an output wire. They likely don't use a signal wire because the output is low enough that it isn't needed, or so much power is drawn from the system that it never reaches a high charge rate (low beam always on, etc).

kick starters are so low geared they don't turn the motor fast enough for long enough... Even my Yamaha's are a bastard to kick till the motor is hot... ..

Trail Tech (7004-RR150) Regulator/Rectifier for DC Electrical System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JGRATRM..._DCPiDbH2BRCMD Still getting 15v with the headlight on, that will eventually boil the battery on a long enough ride so that's better than it not charging but not good. Going to message the seller but I doubt they know a damn thing about the items they are selling and will be of no help.
