Apollo DB36 Mikuni vm30-83 install Help

Hello,

I recently got my first bike (Apollo db36 250cc) and am trying to install the Mikuni VM30-83 carb. I am having a really hard time fitting it.

I've ordered 3 different adapters for the manifold (from vmcchineseparts.com) because the Mikuni i got doesn't have the 2 bolts from the carb<->manifold. None of them have the right angle or length to reach the carb (once attached to the manifold). The carb itself is much bigger and leaves me very little wiggle room. I have some questions and am really hoping someone can help me.

  1. I figured i ordered the wrong carb after seeing many posts suggesting the VM26. I looked on Mikuni's website and cannot find any vm26 carbs with a 30 mm spigot. Do i have the right carb?
  2. If anyone has installed the vm30-83, can you suggest a flange adapter that i can use?
  3. The mikuni carb i ordered does not have the plate attached to the choke. Is this something i have to get separately? Right now it seems the choke is non functioning.
I've attached some pictures. If any other pics are needed let me know and i will take some. Thank you in advance.

On a similar bike the TBR7, Minkuni VM26 carb off Amazon (1.5 turns out on fuel/air screw on bottom outside middle, inside the fuel bowl a 20 pilot and 115 main jet as of right now) with stock or aftermarket exhaust. It runs fine when warmed up. I plan on eventually putting in a 25 pilot, but we shall see. I am at sea level here. The stock carb is not worth the trouble, just toss it. They ship it that way obviously for emissions purposes, not worth the hassle. The Minkuni is simple to work with and easy to get parts for. The stock choke cable lever setup and spring bolts onto the Minkuni for the handle choke lever, just be careful to take pictures how the spring goes on to save yourself a few minutes of frustration on how to transfer it onto the new one. Swap the needle and black barrel over to the one provided with the VM26 and also sliding in the throttle cable properly.

The Mikuni VM30-83 will too big of a carb for that bike. The VM26 would be a better match.

All Mikuni vm26 carbs have a 26mm spigot.

The stock carb has a 30mm spigot. Does that mean i cannot get a genuine mikuni with a 30mm spigot that would fit my bike?

Is it better to get a knock off Mikuni having a 30mm spigot but will fit, or just get a Mikuni vm26? Would the smaller spigot effect the bike in any way?

Most of us are running the Mikuni vm26 or keihen pz30...the knockoffs have the flange with 2 bolts. They are less than 30bux new. If you really want to be creative, get a pz30 with an accelerator pump and split cable.

Most will get the Mikuni VM26 clone which had a flange mount and will bolt right up.

Thank you TxTaoRider and JerryHawk250.

I will give JerryHawk250's link a go. I guess trying to get a genuine Mikuni for a chinese dirtbike was a bad idea. Spent so much money on adapters. Hope i can return them :/

There is another option I believe. I've heard you may be able to buy the intake assembly from a crf230f and use your genuine Mikuni. Maybe someone will confirm this.

My genuine Mikuni VM26 experience w/ a Hawk 250

I did the genuine Mikuni VM26. Paid $80 for it. It’s indeed a high quality carb. I finally found an intake adapter that would fit, and frankly, I didn't like it. I could never find an adapter that prevented the carb from contacting the frame and pressing my UNI pod filter against the frame, prematurely wearing it out. Secondly, I never could get it to run quite right, and I’m pretty decent with carburetors. I finally just took it off and put the $30 cheap Chinese Fakuni back on there and it runs great.

this kind of works, I have a crf230f intake with my nibbi carb, the bore of the crf230f intake is not concentric with the mounting flange for the carb and is a larger diameter. I made a spacer to fit inside the mounting flange to align the carb bore with the intake manifold.
I had to do this because I couldn't find an intake manifold that allowed the carb to clear the frame. I was almost to the point of fabricating my own intake manifold.
