Down shift just to keep RPMs at mid level?, Or not?

I notice that when I run my stock Brozz on nice smooth secondary roads I start to get up to about were one would normally up shift from 3rd to 4th, when they intended to build speed, under normal highway driving conditions . I catch my self up shifting on these secondary roads just to reduce RPMs ,with no intent,or desire to build speed. The RPMs are low enough that I have to go back to third on any hill, or curve that amounts to anything. My question is is it harmful, or perhaps benificial long-term to run low RPMs when possible ? Is there a minimum steady cruising RPM level that you maintain ,no matter the gear, or speed, or is the lower RPM level alright as long as it is not lugging down?

I usually try to keep the RPM's at or above 4000 in general as that is where these engines really start to "come alive", but I also will upshit on level or downhills to keep the RPM down if I can. If you have to choose between higher revs and lugging the engine, take the revs. Being such a small single cylinder, they don't mind the higher rpms as much anyway.

Thanks again Dan. I will be spending a good bit of time on the secondary roads, and just wanted to know how to treat the bike the best .
