Hawk 250 efi issues.

Alright so I just got this bike a couple weeks ago been running great as I was putting miles on I it seemed like it was getting more power and starting to ride really good. I’m at 177 miles now and it’s sluggish and feels like it’s misfiring while I ride coming up to speed to get ready to shift.. I checked air box and I checked the spark plug both were fine. Anybody know what the issue is? Also I was going to do a oil change at 200 miles I haven’t really been dogging it at all I went 70 down hill twice but other than that I’m not ramping on the throttle much at all. I got valvoline 10w 40 is that good oil to use? Also do I need to change the oil filter as well??? Is it Normal for the bike to act funny like this when breaking in the engine???

I was curious if maybe this is the efi since I drove a little faster than usual to the store about a 25 mile round trip I did 50 there and back in 5th gear around 6000rpm is that enough to make it sluggish because the efi or computer or whatever wasn’t use to that kind of riding?

i know this may sound dumb, but have you set the valve clearance yet?
I have heard those motors have the valve clearances set too tight from factory.

Also the idle is pretty rough it definitely sounds like it has a misfire when idling

I noticed fuel in the tank of my dlx efi and thought it doesn't look good. My bike not put together yet is a 12-20 so tells me fuel could be rotten! If that maybe the case there should be a screen or filter inline that is getting clogged. I don't even see a place where you can switch to reserve not alone on-off. One other thing I noticed is the rubber connection from the air box to the FI is scrunched.🤔 My observation so far.

valve clearance

set the valve clearance.
That may be your problem.

I know there are others here more qualified than I.

I’ll run out and get a new feeler gauge and check clearance the one I have is rusty. But like I said it was running great and was starting to be broke in and seemed like it was coming alive but when I left the store today it had a light mis fire and seemed like it was sluggish. I’m beginning to wonder if maybe I just got some bad gas but it was fine for the first half of the tank

Adjust your valves which is important, that's what I'm going to do and an oil change before I even start this bike next week. I'm sure we are going to learn the fuel system together! Cramp in the tank from who knows how long is something we need to be able to fix. Again my thoughts and I will let you know what I learn on this end. It will be next weekend before I get a chance to do first start 😀

Try opening the gas cap. Some of these bikes came with a defective gas cap that doesn't vent properly. Cant hurt to try.

You shouldn't have ever ridden it before checking and adjusting the valves. That's "Chinabike 101".
