Anyone Ever Have A Prostate Biopsy???
It is a pretty rough experience!!!
I had a series of 12 such biopsies a few years ago (which is done while one is awake) and 4 of the 12 were positive. On the 1-5 "Gleason Scale", which rates the seriousness of the cancer found, mine were all only a 1 (the lowest), so my urologist's plan was for me to simply have biopsies once a year. As the 2nd year approached, cringing at having to go thru that again, I asked my doctor if I could just have the cancer treated, and he said YES! I "thought" I would have a series of 40 or so general radiation treatments. Instead, I found my insurance would cover the more expensive, targeted Cyber Knife treatment of five 1/2 hour treatments every other day, so I went for that. But unfortunately, the Cyber Knife required four (4) gold pellets being implanted for Cyber Knife locating (which is done while one is awake). I was in stirrups for for well over 2 hours for the procedure, starting with nurse taping my testicoids out of the way (quite embarrassing). It took what seemed like forever using ultrasound to find the exact locations for the pellets, and that and the insertion of them hurt like Hell. I was sweating bullets! Was WORSE than the biopsies. Had I know the pellet implanting was so rough, I would have opted for the old fashioned 40 radiations, or insisted on being asleep for the implants (which would have had to be done in hospital rather than outpatient center). |

Welcome to the club.
The biopsy's sucked, but I've had worse. Mine now lives in a jar somewhere. Six years cancer-free, so far.

Man... I've never had to have one done. But I've had a camera scope up my pee-pee a couple times. They at least used numbing gel to keep me from dying. lol. Sorry they couldn't do that for you.

Oh, they injected lidocaine beforehand, but I read somewhere once that for some reason, lidocaine does not work very for people with red hair, and although now white, it used to be red.

I will remember that lidocaine and red hair issue, Augie. It explains a few of my medical experiences.
Fortunately, no prostate problems.
