Identification list for Chinese bikes/motors??

Hello everybody, I would appreciate any advice you all might offer.

We're looking for a bike for my nephew. He's a big 12 year old with nearly a 30 inch inseam. He's a mild mannered kid and no hotrod at all; he's never complained about the performance of the XR80 he rides now, but he looks like a toadfrog wadded up on the thing. He rides my XT225 with no problem but really needs something lighter and easier to pick up by himself. We're on a budget and the Jap bikes we've seen are a bit expensive. We're not afraid of a chinese bike in a box if we just knew what to buy. Is there a list somewhere that tells which old jap bikes the chinese bikes are based on? Thanks very much for any help.
