Re: "Lifanoid"?

Like Spud I make the same distinction, except I don't have a seperate catergory for American Lifan. Lifanoids are clones of clones of Hondas. Q's are Suzukis (closer than a clone, actually, as the same manufacturer makes both the S and the Q), Zongs are close copies/clones of Yamahas.

Zong builds some Lifanoid motors. Like the one which was in my HSUN. It's like a cow giving birth to a sheep, I know but strange things happen in China!

This may help or further confuse the issue…but Zongshen, Lifan and Loncin are major manufactures that produce more engines then they produce assembled motorcycles. Then there is the Qingqi and Grand River Group that produces the Suzuki engines. They all produce Japanese technology based engines and the first three primarily produces Honda types…but also Yamaha types. Then the later to also produce Honda types but not Yamaha types.
The most common type used in GY or Dual Sports is the Honda type the 163FML a single 196-197cc single with either a OHV or OHC configuration. Then there are manufactures that may produce their own engines, but since most of the bigger manufactures listed above produce more engines then fully assembled bikes, the others are often utilizing one of their engines. If not buying them then they reverse engineered off them, a copy of a Lifan's copy of a Honda, could be called a Lifanoid. Not all Qingqi are or have a Suzuki engine…a 250cc cruiser they sell has a Honda twin. The Zongshen Storm has a Yamaha V250 but the GS250 street bike uses a Honda single that is actually less then 249cc. The Lifan V-250 uses a Yamaha 250.…. |
