New Zongshen Sierra 200, Utah Registration Issues

Hello all, I'm in the process of trying to legalize my new Zongshen for street use, and I'm having difficulty. I went to the local courthouse and found that to register my bike, I will need the title; the seller claimed he couldn't find it. I pressed her about getting a replacement title but she seemed pretty sure it wasn't possible without some sort of proof of ownership beyond the sales agreement I got from the seller. I mentioned that he may have imported the bike himself, and if that be the case I would also need customs papers from the guy. I left a message on his phone earlier today, he was supposed to contact me today and hasn't yet. My fingers are crossed.

Case in point, any advice regarding obtaining a new title and registration in Utah or nearby states would be deeply appreciated.

Sincerly,
-Cameron P.

P.S. To the best of my knowledge, bonded titles are not available in Utah. Thanks for the tip katoranger.

Did the seller advertise it as street ready and legal? If they had a title, but lost it they should be able to get a duplicate with their ID.

http://dmv.utah.gov/buyingresponsibilities.html Gives the steps for a duplicate title.

If it was never titled and they are not the original importers/owner and don't have any paperwork you may be out of luck.

Allen
