Yamaha currently manufactures the TT-R230, Allen.

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/pr...4/0/specs.aspx

However, the Yamaha has a 223cc engine, the same engine formerly employed by the TT-R225, and XT-255 motorcycles. Zongshen has added 7cc more displacement to their ZS172FMM engine.

I wonder if they get the extra 7cc from that modified head with the exhaust flipped.

Here are the figures for the Zongshen engine: 72.5mm Bore x 55.7mm Stroke

Here are the figures for the Yamaha engine: 70.0mm Bore x 58.0mm Stroke

Therefore, the connecting rod, cylinder, piston, piston rings, cylinder head, et cetera, are different between these two motorcycles.

Hey Spud, what do you make of the weak spark? Does that rule out the CDI? Coil?

I don't know, Bill. :? It could be either of those parts, or the stator as well. In any event, it won't cost you much to fix it. Break out the multimeter, and get to work; we want to see this bike running!

I don't see how the stator could cause it :?: . Wouldn't that just keep the battery from charging? I should mention the bike is electric start only, no kickstarter.

If you don't mind, Bill, let's terminate this thread, and keep the questions to the other thread; otherwise, I'll get too confused!

I would say don't presume that the plug is ok, just because it's new. Maybe it's a clone, or maybe it was dropped. New plugs are cheap enough that you could rule that out with a genuine NGK.
