Yes boost is addictive too lol. Sorry to hear that it crapped out on you. I did a cam and valve spring swap and like you made a few quick runs. The next day I was going to do a few more test runs after tuning. I was just pulling out the on to the street taking it nice and easy. All of a sudden I start hearing a knock. it started getting louder and louder. So I made a block and limped back to the house. I did a compression test and no compression on one cylinder. I pulled the head and there before me was this nice big hole in the piston. I'm like WTF? Turned out that I had defective valve springs that were recalled. and had dropped a valve right through the piston. I had to fight it but Comp paid for replacement parts due to they sold them to me knowing they were recalled. You want to feel some real boost. My boost controller malfunctioned one night at the track and accidently pushed 16# of boost through it. Woohooo! one hell of a rush till the intake tube blew off about half track. lol

That's crappy news, but you've got a good attitude about it. What displacement are you on the hunt for?

05 Aluminum 5.3 with 101k miles is on the way!!!! After spending half the day looking at local and semi-local engines yesterday and being extremely disappointed in their condition/appearance, i went with an online source.

That sounds like an excellent base to build on. Do you intend to examine the bottom end before building the motor?

This is for my own education: would you also change the rod and main bearings?

No, rotating assembly is run as is. Everything else is replaced, lifters timing chain oil pump valve springs all gaskets etc. Main engine bearings rods and pistons are left stock.

Motor pullin party. Got damn it.

TDC for #3. For those who may not know, the piston is supposed to come above the deck. This is the highest I could get this one, followed by a clunk.

Just like I thought.....

And this is why you dont pull in engines in flip flops!! Not that this will stop me from doing it again.

Lots of new parts showing up daily, engine should be here tomorrow. Broken motor is completely torn down/stripped. All the other new parts in this engine looked great, nothing else seems damaged other then that bearing. So, on to reassembly and upgrades.

It was my own dumbass fault. Getting the crank bolt loose I did two things wrong, 1. was use a non-impact (read cheap) 1/2 drive extension, and 2. decided since the motor was wanting to move when pulling on the breaker bar I'd stand on the k member. Extension broke I hit the concrete with my heel hitting head studs on the way down.

Considering the event, the crank and rod actually look good. I think bc i shut it down right after and didnt drive it till it had catastrophic failure it limited the damage.

LOL, I've done some of those dumbass things. Most of mine ended up in busted knuckles. Glad to here the crank made it through alright. I wonder what caused the failure? Maybe some of the sludge if coughed up? At least you have easy access for pulling the engine. Try pulling and installing an engine in a truck by yourself with only an engine lift. As big as the engine bay is on a truck its still a tight squeeze it in there. Like threading a needle.

I have a chain hoist hooked to a ceiling beam. Seems to work well, I hook chains to the frame horns just inside of the headlights with the hood removed. Lift the front end straight up.

I've been known to wear safety flip flops in the shop as well. I've learned that it's difficult to push a car in flip flops.

Welding and flip flops is not such a good idea either.
