Looks great Dan, your level of patience far exceeds mine. I don't think I could hold out that long without a quick spin around the block .....or state.

I can't legally ride it until I register it, and I am not taking the chance of being caught. The police in Omaha are cracking down pretty hard on bikes this year.

Also, believe me, this is testing my patience. However, I learned a long time ago that doing it right the first time is the only way to do anything. If that means it takes longer, then it takes longer.

Starting in my mid to late 30's, I slowed down on projects and started doing more intensive detailed work to prevent future problems. I used to be bad about, "That can wait until next year when I change tires" or some such nonsense to validate my excuse for not doing something I should do. Now in my early 40's, I just do it. I'm learning to switch off and just do it.

Once I can tweak it a little more I think I will like it. I want to shorten up the metal exhaust tube I used to mount the filter, it's about 4 inches long and really only needs to be maybe 2 inches long tops. That will let me shorten up the elbow a bit more and get the filter closer to the motor.

This was kind of a proof of concept for me, and to give me an idea of what will work and what won't. Once I switch to a larger carburetor, I will be doing the same thing.

In fact if anybody is interested, this is the elbow I used. Nice and cheap.

For me it was my late 20's, right around the same time I started doing repair work on machines. You learn quickly that taking a little extra time now to get everything just right means a lot less work later. I struggle against my impatience regularly, but I just remind myself that I want to ride it more than I fix it, and that works.

Thanks for the link. I was going to ask you were you got it from. I'm going to need something closer to 1 7/8" id. But that gives me a place to start looking. I think I'm going to cut a round hole about a inch bigger than my pod filter so I can put the filter in the air box and will be protected from mud and water slinging on it.

You should be able to use a 50mm/1.07" elbow on that carb end. I am using a 45mm i.d. hose on this carb with a 43mm filter end on it.

My carb is 50mm and filter is 48mm. That's one I was looking at.

Would it be possible to drill a hole in the air box and run the tube inside and then put the filter on? My thinking is the airbox would act as a splash guard. The top of the box could be drilled for more intake air and a small hole or three in the bottom to allow any water that gets in to drain back out.

It is possible in theory, but may require a little creativity in order to get the filter to fit. If you ran it without the outer foam layer then it would definitely fit.

Well my MCO finally got shipped out today via Priority Mail, so as long as they don't screw up anything with the paper work, hopefully I will get it in Friday and I can register it.

As far as the intake setup. This is it for now. Further tweaks to come, but it works. I need to shorten up the metal tubing I used to adapt the air filter so I can shorten that side of the elbow some more, and I need to obviously figure out a better place for the breather.

Dan, where did you get the pump carb, and what brand is it? I origially bought a Keihin, but was sent a Youall brand. The pilot jet that came with mine does not match anything I can find, but the main jet seems to be easily found. Did you check out the pilot jet on yours?

Doug

Yeah, I did in another thread. The pilot that came in mine is the same style as the stock Hawk pilot jet, but a 33 in size. I installed the Hawks 40 pilot jet in this one as it is a known quantity to work with.j

Might as well update. No new progress, but I do have all of my parts in. Now if I could just get a day off I might be able to finish it.

Got my MCO in today as well.
