Hey Folks,

for your convenience I updated the Sprocket Cross Reference making the necessary corrections based on the feedback received. I took the 428 size out of this post as it couldn't be the correct sprocket either, I will leave it at the 520 conversion for now.

Everybody please make sure to compare the dimensions from your bike to the diagrams as attached form www.jtsprockets.com

Note: Please remember that the chain pitch on a 428 Chain is 0.5 inches (1/2") and on a 520 chain is 0.625 inches (5/8"). That means for every tooth you will gain 1/8" in circumference, at 17 teeth the added circumference would be 2 1/8" making the front sprocket diameter too large to fit under the cover.

Example:
428 Chain 17 teeth x 1/2" = 8.5" circ.
520 Chain 13 teeth x 5/8" = 8.125" circ. (should allow extra for the heavier chain). With the change in front teeth the rear sprocket will have to be adjusted as well, as indicated in some options below.

Furthermore I added the various Honda Models w/year, any of these sprockets can be found on, so you may even ask your local dealer for these sprockets based on Model and the desired number of teeth (if you don't want to purchase online).

JT Sprocket - http://www.jtsprockets.com/

520 Chain Size - Complete Conversion Reference:

Front only, as found on 1986-1988 Honda TRX200 SX Fourtrax; 1990-1991 Honda TRX200 Fourtrax; 1991-1997 Honda TRX200 D Fourtrax Type II.

Front sprocket available in: 11, 12, 13, 14 teeth.

Rear only, as found on 1977 Honda XL175/K4; 1974-1976 Honda CB200/T; 1976-1979 Honda CB200.

Rear sprocket available in: 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 teeth.

Stock Ratio Set-Up: Front Sprocket P/N JTF1324.13 – Rear Sprocket P/N JTR279.35 = Ratio 35/13 = 2.6923
Highway Ratio Set-Up: Front Sprocket P/N JTF1324.13 – Rear Sprocket P/N JTR279.33 = Ratio 33/13 = 2.5384
Even More?? Highway Ratio Set-Up: Front Sprocket P/N JTF1324.13 – Rear Sprocket P/N JTR279.32 = Ratio 32/13 = 2.4615
Off Road Set-Up: Front Sprocket P/N JTF1324.13 – Rear Sprocket P/N JTR279.38 = Ratio 38/13 = 2.9231 (equivalent to a 50/17 set up that some of the Chinese Dual Purpose come with, top speed will be quite limited though).

Well you get the picture.

I hope this helps, enjoy.

Andi

liverchip,

I just put diagrams to the P/N "RD" provided, I would guess it works as he has used it successfully September last year based on his thread. The diagrams should allow for confirmation of mounting sizes for the sprockets.

As per the "too thin", not sure what that means, I would have thought the thickness of the sprocket would be matched to the thickness required by the 520 chain, which I would have thought is thicker then a 428.

Maybe Bruce could shed some light on that, I'm sure he is more experienced then I am. I guess he offers a kit for the proper conversion already.

I will certainly give him a call when my 428 set up is worn out, I will convert over at that point. Bruce was kind enough to put together a parts order for me, bought a Battery, spark plug, exhaust gasket and most of all a few different main jet sizes to try out. I will test the different jets to see what may be the most suitable for my location and climate.

On my Lifan LF200GY-5, I have the Keihin - Sheng Way 30mm carburetor and Bruce was easily able to provide the correct type of main jet in various sizes. My bike had a 98 size and he send me: 90, 95, 102, 105, 110 size jets.

I will keep you all posted.

Andi

freekshow,,

Unless they went to a 428 chain in the 07 models of the DB-05, I believe you have a 520. At least my 06 DB-05 is.

clarification

I have read through the whole post and think i have this correct now....
-The 428 fronts lsited will not fit properly because of wobble?
-Replaceing the rear is still fine?
-going to a heavier 520 setup is the best option?

I went to the parts compatibility section herehttp://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...showpage&pid=2
which still has the 428 parts listed. Is this an older post or are they just referring to the rear sprocket compatabilty? I really want to replace the front sprocket and not the rear or a whole new setup. Has anyone found a good 428 front sprocket since the last post? I want higher road speeds and the ability to switch it out quickly for off roading.
-D

I can tell you for sure that the JTF 259 sprockets will not work. Dimension #4 is wrong. Won't fit on the shaft because the splines are too wide.

Wanted 15 tooth

I'd like to have a 15 tooth front sprocket in the 428 size. Anyone have one they want to sell?
