Well, I still am quite surprised with them being that heavy. I cant figure out why they would weigh that much, and where that weight would be!

If they are really that heavy, the best mods to them is carving some weight off. HP/Weight ratios dont lie!

OB1,
They're not light bikes, no performance parts at all, all heavy crappy steel, with crappy welds, you should know, these ain't no Honda's being ridin by a champ, got all that extra weight from exhaust guards, steel rims and hubs, racks, etc. It's a GY, It's really a one purpose dual-sport that should be riden on the streets of China... They found a market in America and our thoughts on how a bike should perform take over, it's not a Jap bike, for a Grand I take it for what it's worth, and I love it... They'll be selling them at Wal-mart in the near future and that's when the prices will go high and the weight will be lighter and less quality....

I figured they would be heavier, maybe 15lbs or so...not 60.

Start carving some weight off the GY's; AL bars and rims would be a good start, beyond that it gets tougher.

Oh, and a diet for the pilot {myself included!}, the easiest way to significantly change the HP/Weight ratio!

Steel parts

All the little brackets are made of steel. Most bikes have aluminum brackets. Steel handlebars, pegs, exhaust systems, swingarms, calipers, caliper brackets, and subframes add up fast. I don't even think they have separate subframes! When I finally get mine. It will go on a serious diet.

If it's flat and made of steel, I'll repalce it with an aluminum copy!
