I would run it until it quit again then quickly reach down and shut off the petcock. Then open the drain screw on the float bowl and see if an ounce or two of gas drains out. If it does, fuel flow to the carb is OK.

Then pull the spark plug and check for spark.

Then put thumb over the plug hole, hold tight, crank engine, see if air escapes past your thumb.

It depends on what CDI you have. AC or DC. Look at the connector and buy one with a like connector configuration. It should also be marked.

Here's an example of the many available on Amazon.

It has a 4pin and 2pin connector (both rounded). I asked for recommendations because all the ones I have seen have poor reviews.

I asked the same previously. I wanted to buy a known good CDI. But never heard about one. I ended up buying a 10$ one that advances the timing. I don't have it yet but fingers crossed.

Good luck with the "quality" CDI chase. My particular luck has been it didn't really matter. I have a cheap-o (free to me) in my X-Moto now that's worked fine for years. It's probably because I have a known-good used cheap-o in back stock as a scare crow.

w0ss, let us know what you think about the adjustable CDI. I've always wondered about them but haven't heard anything good or bad. I think Humanbeing has commented on them in the past.

I just ordered a KITACO brand CDI. If it is the real thing or a good clone, it has been dyno proven (3rd party) to improve mid-range power. I am sceptical, but, it's worth a try. If it works at all, it will at least be a good backup.

Hey Sport Rider I know this thread is old but my Hawk is acting similar. What finally fixed your problem?
