I finally got around to installing a larger main jet for Jim today. I bought a #88 main from Scrappy Dog Scooters, because they recommend it for a free-flowing intake and exhaust. I don't have real empirical data to support the changes, but it definitely feels like a boost in the midrange, Not sure what the new top speed is, because it pegs the speedo.
Jim called me after he got home, and he reported that the scoot was a little more responsive and had more pull on hills. I told him that we've gone as far as we can with that combo, unless he wants to install a 70cc kit. Instead, he's considering upgrading to a 150 from Saga. Further bulletins as events warrant.

When Jim bought his new 250 Saga, he sold the 50 to a nice couple from our Church. They asked me to come over and give it a good look before they start riding it, so I popped over this evening. They had charged the battery, so it only required installation. No amount of cranking would get it to fire, so I removed the carb.
I was unable to unseat the float valve by blowing through the fuel hose, so I removed the float needle and wiped it clean. I put the carb back together, cranked it a few times, and it fired right up after it filled the bowl. These scooters don't have a traditional petcock, but rather a vacuum operated valve that pulses fuel with each vacuum signal from the intake. It's a nice simple system, but it's easy to flood the engine if you try to start the engine with the kickstand down (due to the safety switch that prevents ignition). I took it for a quick rip around the block, and it feels great. The only concern is that the rear brake lever is cracked and requires replacement. Perhaps that's left over from Jim's spill. We'll pop a new one on once they obtain one from Saga.

It's not all philanthropic. There's banana bread in it for me.
I got a call from them tonight; they bought the brake lever, so I'm gonna go install it tomorrow.

You might have a cat. The best thing to do is show us pics, and we'll try and help from there.

the cat is in the header pipe and you should be able to see where it is situated. you either cut it out or get a different header piper.

I agree that is most likely with DS bikes, but there may be some out there with a cat hiding in the muffler. You never know until you cut it apart.
