Thumbs Up

nailit69,

Good job on taking on this project and even a better job mentoring the kid from your neighborhood. Keep up the good work.

Thumbs Up

I only do it cuz he's a little hustler... he's 12, but always coming by selling handmade stuff for a few extra bucks around the holidays, mows my grass with his weedeater/mower and gas, helps throw brush in the truck, cleans up stuff, washes cars, etc.. The neighbors always turn him down when he asks to mow thier grass.

I basically pay him $20 to mow my flowers and chop down anything else that managed to survive his first pass... he leaves it a little messy but at least he tries... the other neighbor kids are busy playing and he's always wanting to make money.

I got him another gig for my buddy who lives about 1/4 mile away mowing his grass too so he's pulling in at least $35-45 a week... not bad for a 12yo kid living on a dead end road.

Update... Gave up on the China quad and grafted the engine into an old Kawasaki Mojave 250 that had better everything for half of the cost to fix said Chinese quad. I bought a new wiring harness so the wiring is good, got it running again, welded tabs for everything and fabbed up a battery box, for now I'm just putting the finishing touches on everything and getting it ready to leave the shop. Pics coming when im closer to finished.

Got it all back together and running... turned it over to the kid Sunday. I honestly think he was scared of it cuz it took about 2 hours before he got the nerve to actually ride it. After a couple of days of practice he figured out how to use the clutch and found second gear. He's got a little one acre track he can practice on... although he thinks I'm in charge of keeping him supplied with fuel. I'll give a few weeks to learn and then take him out to some real trails.
