This may sound like a silly question Lit Hawk. Does the neutral light come on when in neutral? Reason I ask is I had a break in the neutral wire at the connector by the engine. Starter would not work unless I pulled the clutch. the Neutral light would light up until I hit the starter button. The light would go out and would get nothing. Check the connection there.

To rule out any of the safety switches as being bad. Ground the pink terminal a try the start button. Pink is a ground. The clutch switch and neutral switch complete that ground circuit. After rereading everything you have tested it seems o be a bad solenoid.

Yes my neutral light comes when in neutral. I read your thread about the diode and I don’t think this is my problem. I also think it may be my solenoid. We will see.

Just throwing some ideas out there. Looks like all the testing you done it kind of narrows it down to the solenoid. Good luck.

So I got my solenoidon Friday after work I installed it and fired right up no problem. Damn I was so sick of kick starting it. Most of the times it would fire right up but when it really counted (like when I was around a lot of people) it would flood. So embarrassing Finally figured out my tool kit that came with bike in my burrito tube worked perfect for removing my spark plug. I’d then pump kick start a couple times with spark plug removed and reinstall plug and it would start right away. Anyways took the bike to Galveston for Easter weekend start button working perfectly all the way up to Sunday. All of a sudden wouldn’t work anymore after I got t a little wet riding in the surf (so much fun). I pulled side cover off to inspect and everything looked good, so I jumped solenoid and bike started up. Went for one last ride for the day because I didn’t want to kickstart. Then when loading up to come home,I took the bike on a carrier. I tested start button and it worked. Tested start button a couple times and fired right up every time So fast forward, I get home rinse the hell out of the hawk to get all the saltwater and sand off. Unload from carrier go to start and nothing again. So I’m thinking both times it wouldn’t start was after I got bike wet. I haven’t tried jumping solenoid to see if it fixes like in Galveston but I’m thinking I got a bad solenoid.

Oh yeah I wanted to also mention after I got the new solenoid and was working good. I tried to start in gear with clutch pulled in just to test, I didn’t know that was possible. My bike will only start in neutral it does not start in gear with clutch pulled in. So I guess I got a faulty one also.

Opened it up and jumped solenoid and it started working again. Started to was my bike and tested it after I got it a little wet and again not working. So I finished washing the bike and Jumped the solenoid again and now it works. So something with the water makes it stop working until I jump it and it’ll work fine no problem

Jumping the soleniod bypasses everything so the problem might not actually be the solenoid.
Check the contactor in the start button, Mine gets shitty if I go through too much water. By surf do you mean saltwater?
Maybey try a dielectic grease or some corrosionX if you find it has corroded.

I agree with Jim, although it depends on what a person means by jumping the solenoid. For example, if that means applying power to the primary side with jumper cables, that's quite different from crossing the secondary side with a screwdriver.

I’m still having starter problems. Today I pulled my starter off and brushes are gone. Anyone know where I can get a new starter or brushes for my starter?

I have had lots of electric issues. I have found 2 pushed out pins so far. Also the fuse holder has a bad connection in it too. Going to replace that tonight. So give a good look at the connectors give them a wiggle. You may find your problem.

I wish it was that easy for me iVe already checked all connections. I opened up my starter and the 4 brushes that are in there are completely gone. So I’m sure I need a new starter I wish I could just replace the brushes but there connected as one piece. New starter at txpowersports is $85. I don’t have that right now. Sucks kickstarting it, today I was successful in kick starting it right away after trying for at least 30 min by wiggling the spark plug wire. So I’m hoping I can at least get it kickstarted in 1 or 2 kicks eventually by messing with my spark plug wire.

so this is where sleuthing comes in, I did a search on chinese pit bike starters and I see many for $30. Not sure which one will work but someone here smarter than me should be able to find one for about that price point. Happy hunting.

So after lots of searching I found one on eBay that looks like it’ll fit. I paid $22 way better than $85. Hopefully it’s the right one fingers crossed
