72.5x55.7...230cc
ZS172MM (GS250)

67x55.7.…196cc
ZS167FML (ZS200GY)

Looks like the GS250 could very likely be a bored out version of the Yamaha engine?

I think the 230cc threw everyone into guessing it was a Honda based design…but something always troubled me on that it looks nothing like a Honda engine.

It could be a modified version of the engine on the dual sport bike…a lot of modifications that may all be cosmetic?

I think they look real good but seem big for the engine power, but I bet you could have some fun with it…

You have done very nice research, Oengus. Indeed, that engine is a Yamaha clone. I just discovered the next engine I want to put in my Zongshen, Sierra 200GY-2.

Brother Bill, if you don't want that motorcycle, and/or you decide to sell it later, I want first dibs on it!

Humanbeing, I am sorry I doubted you; please forgive me. The engine in the Zongshen ZS250GS is indeed an overhead cam clone of the Yamaha XT200/TW200/XT225 engine; I want one!

People are comparing that bike to ninja all over the internet and in fact they should be comparing it to a TW200 and it mechanical compatibility…. They just increased in value!

Everything looks virtually identical to the parts on my Zongshen ZS167FML engine. This engine has a Yamaha, XT225 magneto, the same as my Zongshen 200GY-2. The right crankcase cover has some extra bolts; otherwise it is identical to my ZS167FML crankcase cover. I am about 95 percent confident this engine would bolt right into my Zongshen 200GY-2, giving me an immediate, 17 percent increase in power.

Perhaps people should be calling this bike a street version of the Yamaha XT225. However, this Zongshen engine has 7cc more displacement than the 223cc, Yamaha engine. I want one!
