You've done a lot of good work, Jarrod! Thank you for sharing this project with us. Weldangrind knows his Honda engines, so you will be wise to heed his consul. I agree with WaG; you don't appear to have a Yamaha engine. :?

Are you certain Doc? I haven't seen one with a removeable oil filter cover on the right side before. I'm only familiar with the oil screen behind the large nut on the left side.

The '84 and '85 XR200 and XR250 likely had a filter on the right side, but they also had a four valve head with twin exhaust pipes in a header. the XR250 continued that way until the end of the run, but the XR200 went back to a two valve head in '86. Perhaps the oil filter location was changed after that, IDK.

That engine is definitely not a Yamaha style, but I'm struggling to figure out just what it is.
It does have an oil filter cover which is unusual but from the other side it looks very generic OHV Hondoid. And no I'm not sure. The older (wiser?) I get the less sure I am about anything!

That just appears to be an oil filter, in reality it is just part of the case, it doesent unbolt. It has the filter screen the cap on the bottom like crf230, and later 200's. I cant seem to find anything it really compares to. The engine mounting pattern is exactly the same as my 230 tho.?? As long as it runs is all that matters to me.

I thought the oil filter cover looked fake! Perhaps Zongshen just changed the appearance of the right crankcase cover, and the rest of the engine is a Honda clone, as Doc proposed.

It'll depend on gearing, but 50-60 flat out sounds plausible. If you gear it for that speed, you'll rob from the bottom end.

Agreed. Especially with a sub 100 pound rider. :P
