I followed that build on a TW forum; he's very creative. The tool tube is made from a stainless toilet bowl cleaner holder.

How did Yamaha align the fat rear wheel with the front sprocket if the BW200 had a short countershaft? Was the engine shifted to the port side, or was the rear wheel shifted to the starboard side?

I think the Zong engine might be patterned after the XT200 engine. However, I know from my top end rebuild that the Zong employs an XT225 flywheel. Some of the parts in the Zongshen engine are a little different from the parts in a TW200 engine, but all the parts are compatible with the same Yamaha, engine block series.

The BW200 used a jackshaft, much like a mini bike. This allowed the engine and rear wheel to remain centered.

Thank you for the explanation, Weld. I am unfamiliar with the BW200 jackshaft. However, it appears this jackshaft employed an extra set of sprockets, and two drive chains to provide the offset. Am I correct?

You just described a jackshaft. It is normally used on mini bikes to multiply gear ratios, but it's also used to transfer the drive from the left side of an engine to the right side of the wheel.

In the case of the BW200, the primary chain connects the countershaft sprocket to the jackshaft, and the secondary chain connects the jackshaft to the rear sprocket. You can correct virtually any misalignment this way.

Thank you, Weld. I don't think I would like to maintain two drive chains, two extra sprockets, and the jackshaft itself. :( I can see why Yamaha switched to the extra-long countershaft for the TW200.

Yes, it does. However, my Zong has an automatic cam chain tensioner. Also, my Zong employs the same, Teikei, MV28, constant velocity carburetor as the current Yamaha, TW200 motorcycle. I wonder why Yamaha didn't split the left crankcase cover on the BW200 to facilitate maintenance of the C/S sprocket? :roll:

Not likely. It'll be my mountain and farm road exploration bike. I think the Shinko Golden Boy tire will suffice.

If you stay out of the mud, the Shinko SR244 is a very good tire, and represents an excellent value.

If you find any spare, TW200 carb boots, please let me know, Weld. I need one of the rubber carb boots that leads from the airbox to the carburetor.
