I never heard of anyone using the No-Toil system with K&N oil filters. No-Toil is designed for foam air filters, and I believe K&N oil filters are made of cotton. I think I would stick with K&N, oil filter products for K&N oil filters.

The following two videos describe the differences between the original, red No-Toil, and the green, Evolution No-Toil filter oils.

Just for confirmation, this response from Gerry Edwards, the CSC tech:

"The air filter doesn't get removed during set up"

That's good to know. I wonder if that means they try to oil the filter without removing it (like with a spray) or not at all.

When I got my bike I had thought it would have been nice to receive a checklist with the setup, so I knew what they did and that each procedure was "signed off" as a QC measure.

From the dry condition of mine and a few others, it is not at all.

My Zongshen ZS200GY-2 (Sierra) was delivered to me new, in-the-crate, and the foam air filter was also dry. I don't think Zongshen oils the air filters at the factory, and this might be common practice for all motorcycle manufacturers.

Oiling an air filter is a messy, time consuming job, so I doubt any motorcycle dealers oil the air filter when they assemble a new motorcycle from the crate. I consider oiling the air filter just another task an owner should perform after he receives a new motorcycle, such as properly breaking in the engine, changing the engine oil, et cetera.

Our bikes have the modified, split side panel, which makes it easy to access the air filter. I think everyone should pull the air filter and oil it, as soon as possible. I highly recommend the No-Toil Air Filter Oil. It really transforms a nasty, messy job, and makes it much more pleasant.

Sorry to disagree, Spud.

The air filter should be oiled as part of the setup.

Something so important shouldn't be left to a new owner, who, more than likely, is only concerned about riding, rather than servicing his new bike.

When I ordered a new OEM air filter for my TW 200, it came pre-oiled in a plastic bag.

Gerry, at CSC, confirmed that they do check the valve clearances during the setup. With the bike apart for the valve check, it wouldn't take much more effort to oil the air filter.

Dumb question. Do I oil only one side or both of the foam? Never mind google tells me I need to work the filter oil into the filter

Yes, saturate the air filter with oil. If you use a petroleum based oil, it is recommended you wear latex gloves. I usually don't wear gloves, but I am prepared to wash my hands with solvent.

No-Toil is a vegetable oil; it is much thinner than petroleum based oil. Therefore, it is very easy to saturate the foam with No-Toil. Besides ease of cleaning, that is the other main reason I use No-Toil on my conical air filters. However, it is much easier to saturate a flat air filter with oil, than a conical air filter.

You may want to rethink this Spud. Since solvents are petroleum distillates you're drawing the natural oils from your hands and over time can have problems. Solvents are carcinogens.

Back in the 50's & 60's I used to clean parts and my hands with gasoline, but I quit doing that once they took the lead out. No lead=no blocking the mind control rays the Jovians hit us with. Now I dust the inside of my helmet with iron filings before every ride. I'm also working in how to work powdered Thorium in to my cold weather gloves to keep my fingers warm.

I know you are correct, George. That is another reason why I am switching to the No-Toil system, which uses vegetable oils, and doesn't require cleaning with solvents.
