I found the thread on my UNI pod jet size search, had made a mental note to add my info to it back in the day as I like the idea of the thread, today is that day!

I think I'm going to go with megadan's setup with a slightly leaner main jet and needle setting to compensate for the stock exhaust.

Bike: 2019 CSC TT250

Elevation: 160ft

Carb: Mikuni VM26 "30mm" Clone https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Jet sizes: Genuine Mikuni Jets - 27.5 Pilot. 115 Main, mikuni needle and needle jet.

Needle setting: Center groove

Mixture screw: 2 Turns out from fully seated (engine pulls good through all gears with no hesitation. Good throttle response from idle to 1/2 throttle and 1/2 throttle to 3/4. Very snappy)

Relevant mods: Sprockets - (Stock gearing 17/50), two stage foam filter (42mm), Ebay exhaust, Air injection eliminated. Havent done a top speed run due to the fact that I am still breaking in the engine. I have had it up to 60 mph on a flat stretch and that was at 3/4 to 7/8 throttle. I weigh 170lbs

altitude: 800ft/244m
carb: PZ30 1.5 turns out on mix screw, 110 main jet, no needle mods, idle set while warm open choke at minimum rev without stall from stock pilot
Valves: both .00285 set cold(would like to know a balance tune that doesn't make a lot of noise)

That's a stock Magician with the iridium plug stock gap, T4 oil, and 87 octane. The coldest I've started it was 28F/-2C and had to go over all three choke stages in a three minute window do to the famous PZ30 pilot jet.. Around 60F/15C I can have it idle with open choke in under two minutes, and over 75F/24C not even use choke.

I've put the VM26 china clone on other RPS bikes here but my personal bike I haven't cause I could never find the real 30mm Mikuni..

2019 Hawk 250 -- stock other than changing to a PZ30 Keihin from eBay.

Main jet: 110
Pilot Jet: 45
Needle: 4th notch from top
Idle Mixture Screw: 1.5 turns out

Altitude: 1000 ft

Starts up with little to no choke (finally) and settles into a reasonable idle. No more stalling, sputtering, and warming up for 20 minutes. Feels much fatter throughout the rev range. Definitely more pick up from 50 to top speed.

Only issue I have is that once the bike is warmed up -- which doesn't take long now -- and I am riding anywhere from 10 mph up, it stutters or surges (not really a stumble) at around 1/8 steady throttle. Feels almost like a fuel injection model that is hyper sensitive and hunts between throttle on and throttle off.

Any ideas?

Anyway, much, much better than the stock carb and well worth taking the time to install a replacement.

It would be a better idea to start a new thread so it doesn't clutter up this one with the discussion. We can help get you figured out!

Thanks for digging this one up again. Gave me a chance to revise mine lol.

To any new people out there, feel free to throw in your setups as well. I am going to include this as a link in my setup guide, so the more the merrier!

Yeah, I thought about that but there are so many new threads on jetting issues that I thought I would be referred back to this thread.

I'll start a new one.

I dug this thread up from the dead. Mostly because I wanted to update it, but also curious to see if anybody wanted to add to it.

Except this is a thread specific to carbureted bikes so other people could figure out an idea of how to jet their cg250 powered bikes.

Bike: 2024 CSC TT250

Elevation: 200 feet at home, but I also ride in the mountains of northern California mostly at elevations of 3000-6000 feet with occasional rides at higher elevations.

Carb: Nibbi PE28FL

Jet sizes: Genuine Nibbi 115 main and 35 pilot.

Needle: The needle that came with the PE28FL, as delivered. It has no markings on it that I can see.

Needle setting: 2nd groove from the top

Pilot air screw turns: 3/4 - 1-1/4 turns, depending on elevation

Top speed: 70-ish on GPS, and dependent on many factors

Relevant mods: Motocult Stage 3 kit, 20mm I.D. tailpipe installed in an otherwise stock exhaust system (with catalytic converter still installed), NGK DPR8EIX-9 spark plug, and 16/45 sprockets. The stock air filter, air box, and pulse air injection system are all still installed. Additionally, I have retained the stock evaporative emissions charcoal canister and have its purge hose routed to the bowl vent fitting on the Nibbi carb. That method of connection for the evaporative canister does have a VERY slight leaning effect on the jetting since drawing air (that contains fuel vapors) through the canister is ever so slightly more restrictive than just having the bowl vent freely open to the atmosphere.

I tried of number of jetting combinations, changing one thing at a time, until i settled on this setup that I'm very pleased with. I chose the 115 main jet and #2 needle clip position as a compromise for the range of elevations that I fairly regularly ride. It's a little lean at wide open throttle at my home elevation and will noticeably, but not horribly, ping on 87 octane fuel if the engine is loaded heavily, like pulling a steep grade. Running 91 octane eliminates the ping and it's not so lean that it causes any particularly noticeable effect. I can back out the pilot screw and adjust the idle speed thumbwheel as necessary to compensate the part throttle mixture and idle speed for riding at higher elevations.

I ride the range of elevations that I indicated (200 feet to 6k+) regularly enough that I don't want to have to keep changing jets all the time, so this is what I've settled on and it works very well for my circumstances. Fuel mileage is 60+ mpg with a combination of road and trail riding that favors more road riding. In all reality, with the pilot air screw at 1 turn, this jetting is likely about ideal for this bike at 3000-4000 feet elevation. The same setup with a 120 main jet, and the pilot air screw at 3/4 turn, is about ideal at my home elevation. Of course, temperature, humidity, and other things that affect air density will vary.

More personal preference mods to come.
