Edit; I tried to paste the post, didn't work...

Here's the post. I haven't found one to fit yet. Not a high performance one!

Since I'm the one who asked, I thought it only fair that I post the information.

Here's the HiBird CDI thread - http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...ewtopic&t=4114

And here's the quote (hope you don't mind, DRK)

Anyone know more about this Type CDI plug type that might work for performance on these Hi-Birds? Thanks

Thanks SpeedSouth,
I tried but I was not able to paste it on there. Just another thing I need to learn.

No problem. I'm sorry I felt compelled to ask my question before I made a better effort to answer it on my own.

Part of my curiosity w/ the HiBird is that this ARS unit is listed as for up to the 230cc engines. The Bird being a 250 (and I haven't yet looked to get the exact cc) I didn't know if the same unit would work. Not that it matters, I'm just too curious for my own good. If I were a cat, I'd be dead. 8)

And I just opened the other thread in a new window and hit the "quote" button, then copied it all (it's easy to miss a line) into my post in this thread. Easy as 1, 2, 3.

Guys, don't just write off the CDI boxes from smaller bikes. What you're looking for is a more aggressive timing curve and units from smaller bikes are just as likely to have them as from any other source.

Right, I would try that box if it were a plug and go. The displacement difference wasn't my concern. The terminal plug difference is the only reason there isn't one on the bird...
The only thing I've found with the same plugs is the Honda Elite 150 scooter and it was a stock CDI not "performance" advance curve or higher rev limit.

I wonder if the performance Honda coils on the AMR racing website would fit our bikes.

For me I couldnt tell the difference but Like I posted I never got mine wound out.
I got it up to 65 on the speedo (had a lot of throttle left) but it was just to cold (46F yeah I'm a wuss  ) to run the 1 mile of expressway to give it a good go or blow .

I want to run it some more to really see if it helped my top end, I didnt notice any more improvement to the bottom end.

Jeez, I go to work and all heck breaks loose about this, well I got the good the bad and the ugly, here goes...

I got a good flat stretch of highway and topped it out, the thing is, it never topped out, got it up to 84mph, 5th gear at 8000 and it still had more, not wanting to destroy my motor I backed off and figured I got my 58 bucks worth...That's the good part...

It has a hard time idling now, it's more of a chug, chug, chug, cough, repeat but it's only when I set the idle to 1500 or lower, throttle response has greatly improved and I'm sure it would wheelie with a smaller gearing...That's the bad..

Now the ugly,
I can see anyone that wants to do this mod that weighs in at over 200#'s you are going to have a problem with the clutch slipping, I noticed it today, 2nd and 3rd gear(WOT) just seemed to wanna go with or without me on it, I may look into stiffer springs but as I said before it's just a commuter bike, that has a whole lot of top end, useless to me but glad it's there...

It's a worthy mod and something I will use to tweak my air, exhaust and jets around, hope this helps all interested, gonna blast her again tomorrow on the way to work and see if anything changes...
