Yeah, but we know it's worth more than what I have to spend. I was just having a little fun. Plus I would need another 700 bucks just to ship it here. I would love nothing more than to get my hands on that beauty of a bike though. Especially with the upgrades.

This bike belongs in the Barber museum. It's the first domino of the Chinese bikes toppling the Euro dominance.

If you do end up making the plunge, I'd be seriously interested. Bought my RX-3 from the most active guy on that thread from advrider who did *mucho* farkling on his example, soooooo... why not do that again and carry the torch on a DS, just as I'm contemplating with an old college bud (who also happens to be an amazing fabricator/engineer at a very well-known local custom MC shop) about doing an epic multi-state trail trip together this fall?

I jummped with Roostre this time. These new GPX bikes are very well made. With Roostre's LXR you could still point to a few things and say "look at the Chineesium". That is all gone on the GPX. I installed the 283 BB all ready, now to start working on a stroker crank. I think 315cc is doable........

There's a 450 on the way.

I'm sure the 450 will be great, but its not for me. I will trade the power increase for the increased range of the 250.

That's a good point. What is the range of the NC250 with a 4-gallon tank anyway?

I'm wanting the 450 as a supermoto, which should be a lot more capable on the street with the extra cc's.

Conservatively 160 miles. In reality I've done over 200 between fills. (North Fork, Idaho to Elk City, Idaho via the the Magruder Corridor. And I'm 100% sure I could have made it to Kooskia if I needed to.

I think the range on the NC250 is quite excellent. I can go to the bar and back at least 14 times before the light comes on and i have to steel mower gas.

Wow!

I wish mine could do that!

I think you will come to find that the 450 and 250 will have close to the same range on the pavement. 250's might be smaller engines, but they also have to work much harder to maintain higher speeds than a 450, which with nearly double the power is barely breaking a sweat.

On the trail, that would change. Then the 450 will start to show it's heavier drinking habit.

450's are also not for the faint of heart or inexperienced when doing trail riding. The extra power, especially the torque down low, require much finer throttle controls. Get it even just a little bit wrong and a 450 will let you know it.

Rekluse removal, oil pump gear change

So I decided to move the Rekluse from the LXR to the GPX. As you can see I had both patients side by side and was able to examine the similarities and differences quite closely. While I was in there I put new oil pump drive gears (nylon) in as a preventative maintenance item that I plan to do annually.

Old gears under clutch basket - looking a little brown:

New and old side by side:

No need to tear the side-cover off - you can get both gears out and back in easily.

New gears installed in LXR motor! New owner should be good for another few years. Replacement gears are less than $15, so it is cheap insurance.

Clutch differences and similarities

Here is a shot of the GPX with the clutch cover off:

First thing I noticed was that the clutch pack was almost to the end of the basket fingers:

They also used a machined aluminum step washer in place of the old steel washers on the clutch springs:

The throw out bearing and push rods are identical in every way:

Clutch baskets

The height of the LXR clutch basket always puzzled me. It was too tall for the 6 clutch pack it came with, but 7 was a bit too thick. Looks like the NC250 design has been modified to make this less of an issue. The new part is probably a bit lighter as well.
