Thanks Spudrider for getting this class back in order.

Well it looks like the rain will end early today and I might get to go out after work and do some more testing. I'll try to get as much information as I can. I haven't forgotten about the skid plate. I started to work on it on Sunday and made a template. I went to get the piece of plate steel I had and it wasn't long enough so I'll pick up a piece from one of the steel fabricators that does a lot of work for me. It's nice being in the construction business. Those guys will do anything for you just to do business with you.

Test postpone till further notice. Rain out again last night

and we have beautiful weather for the rest of the week till Monday but I have something going on every day till then. My poor Hawk will feel neglected.

I have a template made but need to pick up a larger piece of steel plate. Doesn't look like I'll get to work on it till the following weekend. I have too much going on for the rest of the week.

Okay, I found some time today and fabricated my not so fancy but funtional skid plate. I started with a piece of 10"×16"×1/8" Steel plate. I use my grinder to score the plate were in wanted to bend. I used a jig saw with a metal cutting blade to make the radius and a hole saw for drain plug access. I used a 1" piece of flat bar to make a clip to hold the skid plate at the rear (forgot to take picture) and drilled a hole in the frame and bolted at the front . After I installed the skid plate I took a 9 mile ride and took some temp. 94* out on a hot humid sunny day. 226* at the spark plug, 179* at the base. Oil cooler 178* and oil was 173.1* using a temperature probe in the oil and 173 with the heat gun.

Best part is my oil lines are protected now.

Gotta love dual purpose! Eric Buell was all about getting one item to do two jobs.

Has it stopped raining? Did you try out the new skid plate?

Weather been nice all week but been to busy to ride. My day consisted of cutting grass , weed eating the yard, fabricated the skid plate, cleaned up and took my daughter to dance practice for tomorrow recital, coming home and finishing the skid plate install. Finished off the day with a short ride. Tomorrow I'll be at the dance recital for most of the day. Then Monday the rain starts again and looks like it will last till next weekend.

1/8" thick plate Steel. I had a hard time bending it. To bend the two sides I had to use a pipe wrench with a 3 foot cheater pipe.

Now that's dual purpose! Protect your bacon AND fry it up! Yeah, that wheel art only cost me a couple hundred bucks! I was thinking about upgrading to aluminum rims!

Yes! I remember you posted this before. Jerry, you need to do a redux on your plate. It would certanily support the bike. And check out all the weight reducing holes.

A couple of members that have done aluminum wheels think its the BEST upgrade you can do to these bikes.
