Even at 3" be mindful of the rear driveshaft. I've lifted several XJs; some are really sensitive to being lifted and others are not affected. Mostly the ones with Chrysler rear ends seem to suffer while the Dana equipped Jeeps take being lifted pretty well. If the Jeep starts shaking, vibrating or just making squeaking/squealing noises while moving, it's the lift.
Re greasing the slipyoke with a really heavy grease can help for a while, angled shims between the springs and axle can help too, but sometimes you will be forced to either take the lift off or go with an SYE kit.

Within a year the thing will feel like you're driving a drunken buffalo down the street. Just replace the UCAs, LCAs, spring eye bushings and sway bar bushings. ... Also Grand Cherokee LCAs will bolt in, they are good because they are stronger, a little longer (corrects steering geometry) and curved to the inside so that 31's don't rub at full lock.

And if the Jeep sees any offroading at all... swaybar disconnects are worth the price. A disconnected XJ is a beast offroad even with only 3" of lift.
