RX3 competitor?
This thread is going on over at mychinamoto
http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...-DL250-V-strom Turns out, Suzuki is showing off a small displacement sport bike, the GSXR 250 and a small version of the so called 'Wee Strom' the DL250-V-Strom. The GSXR 250 is probably not the most exciting bike seeing as we have several small sportbikes already, but the DL250 is the first mainstream brand having a go at the Zongshen market...

From csc perspective a big deal. Breaking in the castle. Csc awakening sleeping giants. If they are coming for American market

I imagine these will be a threat to Zongshen worldwide. From CSC's perspective, according to the guy who first posted these, these are GW based, and the GW has long been US certified, so these could be here sooner rather than later. However, the Zongshen has proven itself, so from a price-point, they will have the advantage.

The DL250 has a 248cc inline twin putting out 24hp..
should be smooth unlike the buzzy singles.. not sure about the big round head light.. looks like something yer see on the front of a train... And theres a small Yamaha ADV bike in the future if yer can beleave the net.. R3 powered mini Tenere... R3 motor is a 325cc inline twin... but it will not be cheap... Yamaha don't do budget.. The one I'm hangging out to see is the new 700 Tenere due for release early next year.. Just hope it's under 200kgs... Uses MT07 motor 700cc Inline twin... ..

Culcune, I wonder if it's the same China manufacturer that makes SSR (and the old Q's and Konkers)? Rumor has it that factory makes the small displacement Suzuki's, Kawasaki's and KTM's and has for years. Sure wish I could remember how to pronounce the name or I'd type it here.

I'd like to see the R3 mini Tenere, but yeah, price point will not be attractive. |

I would also be interested in DL250 Suzuki twin, and the SSR new V twins (if they have some decent performance). I'll be watching for all the upcoming news and views and performance data! |

From the Mychinamoto thread (that group has several Chinese-based members who are closer to what is going on) the GSXR 250 and DL 250 will be based on the GW 250, and those are manufactured by Suzuki's joint venture company JIANGMEN DACHANGJIANG GROUP CO., LTD. This company is what is listed on the EPA certification list as the manufacturer of record for the GW in 2017. As you pointed out 2LZ, perhaps the engines are made by Qingqi? The EPA certification list only lists the engine manufacturer's country of origin, which is China, but not the company who makes them, so Qingqi would be a good guess. Funny enough, the joint venture who is listed on the EPA certification list for the 2015 Suzuki GW 250 is CHANG ZHOU HAOJUE SUZUKI MOTORCYCLE CO., LTD. Not sure what is going on with Suzuki and its joint venture changes the past couple years?? Maybe just the name changed....

It's a big deal in a very positive sense. A small ADV from one of the Big 4 will make more people aware of the market, and by extension, CSC. From CSC's perspective, we want the PeeWeeStrom to arrive sooner rather than later.

I don't think Suzuki can sell their 250cc ADV at a price that can compete well with the RX3. The existing DR200S retails for $4499, has no bags or wind screen, and will barely do 60mph.

Keep in mind that this bike is based on the Chinese-manufactured GW250 which sells for the same price range of the DR200S. My guess is this bike would be minimum $5k--minimum!

I have not ridden one, but I am guessing the $4k DR200S won't do interstate speeds, either. This is ignorant and stupid thinking because not everyone plans to ride on interstates at 80+ mph all day long. Europeans come to ride across the US on motorcycles as evidenced on Horizons Unlimited . com, and most insist on staying OFF the interstates. There was an interesting thread on advrider a couple years ago in which a father and son rode from San Francisco to NYC on back roads--the father was on a CT70 replica (125cc), and the son was on a 150cc Chinese scooter. In my opinion, they were going a little too slow, but a small adv bike in 250cc should be able to handle 55 to 65 all day long while enjoying the scenery. Apparently, since I saw the Suzuki, someone posted that BMW is thinking of a small bike, too. Joe, you are absolutely correct that your guys sales will continue to rise in spite of 'big brands' getting into the class of the RX3; you guys (okay, Zongshen), in spite of being the only bike so far in this class, have proven the bike reliable and capable. More expensive bikes will add interest, and once people research, they will realize they could save over $1k or more and get just as capable a bike, rather than paying 'big brand' pricing.

No doubt many of you have seen this before:
http://californiascooterco.com/blog/?p=13381 That blog is one of my favorite posts. I may have to do another one ("Why a 450") in another year or so, but I still like the 250s best for serious exploration. |
