The CDI is part of the coil? Got a pic?

It's "the newest thing" (though Vespa has been at it for years).

Quite pricy.......

Depending on the type (there are many)

Geely scooters use a one wire, specific to them, coil/CDI combo
SYM scooters uses a coil/CDI combo in their fuel injected models.
Midwest Motor Vehicles ( http://www.midwestmv.com/manuals.html ) uses a 5 pin (4 connected) coil/CDI combo in their Cheetah 90cc Quad (worth $98 US).

Probably what you are looking at is a unit like the above Midwest unit (if it was mine it would be getting a quick rewire to take a standard coil and CDI).
