Having said that ,
Heres all the oil I took out of old engine when I got it. I'm no doctor but I think someone forgot to drain shipping oil out and put in the good stuff to fill line when first assembling bike.

That would explain everything. Lack a little lubrication.
As far as the pictures. I found taking the pictures in landscape mode works better. Every time I post a picture I took in portrait mode it comes out sideways.

I just took the old piston off with a wrist pin puller cause it didn't want to come out with a gentle pushing. No needle bearing on piston end???? looks like maybe a bronze bushing? Do these motors only have bronze bushings on the crank? Also mine has no oil holes going thru the push rods like on the CB Hondas? rj

Unboxing , tomorrow hope to install. Looks good, but new one doesn't have tachometer drive hole or the air recirculation port on head which I already plugged off on the old motor. Some of the wire connecters are smaller size, Carb idle mixture screw is capped off. Just observations, Hope it all goes together. Maybe swap clutch cover with old one to get tachometer drive back. Could of sworn I took a pic of new motor out of the box in all its new born nakedness but can't find it. Till tomorrow then . rj

Having said that, you wanna here my sad story.
Problem 1)
My motor didn't have a balancer thingy in front of engine . New motor does have balancer thingy in front of motor. So front motor to frame bracket wont fit.
Are new frame brackets available to fit motor w balancer.
2)Old main wiring harness is different then what hooks up to 2 motor wires coming from alternator on new motor.
3) Are the older motors w/o balancer still available?
4) have any of you mounted new motors with balancer in older frames that didn't have balancer in motor? What did you do to overcome problems I've mentioned?
Or would I be ahead to just sell this new motor and get an unbalanced one?
As of now , the lights, horn, turn signals all work , and electric start turns over. but no spark at S'Plug
What to do?

To respond to your first questions, I think the big end uses needle roller bearings and the small end uses a bushing. I don't think there is oil fed through the pushrods; There is an oil passage in the right rear of the cylinder and it makes its way up to the valve cover, where is rains down on the valvetrain.

Sucks about the counterbalanced motor differences. May we see a pic of the two motors together for comparison?
I'm betting that Humanbeing could point to the correct bracket for sale, but it wouldn't be that hard to make one.
You might be able to pull the alternator assembly out of the original motor and install it on the new one for plug 'n' play.
Yes, non-counterbalanced motors are still available.

I personally would look at that as a gift and would happily make or buy a bracket! A counterbalance use to be looked at as a upgrade but I'm not sure those thoughts are shared around here.

the bracket that came on bike holes are the same as the new motor with the exception being the very bottom hole that goes to bottom hole in motor and there is no clearance for balancing shaft part in front of motor. Old mounting holes on motor are about 3-3/4" apart. New motor is 4-9/16"
They also widened the motor mount lugs from 2-3/4" to 3-1/16" with the widened part only being on the RH clutch side.
So if I could just buy a newer front motor mount bracket that would fix that part. If the new motor lower mounting hole was where the original one is, I could just cut the bracket in two to match the wider mount lugs on new motor and use spacers to shift it to the new motor dimensions. Then cut out clearance to get it to go over the balancer shaft bulge.
Great idea Weld about pulling alternator off old motor and using that to get wires back where they should be. Thanks so much for ideas all of you, Rj
