One more piece of paperwork needed and the mortgage application is done. The funds I moved for it were a small disbursement from my retirement account and will be deposited in my bank Thursday. So, once I can show that it’s in my bank, we are golden. Also, as a payout and not a loan, that’s less paperwork headaches I will have.

Less than two weeks away.

Last of the paperwork submitted. All the tees are dotted and eyes crossed. Well and septic passed inspection. Ten more days.

Four more days. Wrote a mega check yesterday for Monday’s closing. Off Tuesday and working from home the rest of the week. Off Turkey week. We hope to be settled in by Christmas.
According to Mrs. C, we’re keeping some stuff at this place for ‘staging’ until it’s sold. I just want some room in here to be able to finish some of the projects we started but didn’t finish because I wasn’t home.

Today is the day. Mrs. C will now know the true meaning of “Damn, I’m tired.”

Signed all the papers and got all the keys. And all garage door remotes. Never had a single one before, now I have four.

The tractor was in the attached garage and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's a 25hp Troy Bilt with a 54" deck. The engine is a v-twin Briggs which possibly means dual carbs and exhaust in the future. Also came with a yard vac and a sprayer. The snowblower is 24" Yard Man and the big shop vac is a 25 gallon capacity.

We ran a couple loads down today, several more tomorrow. We've been figuring out which switches do what, learning what door goes to what room, and where our stuff is going go. The sellers left us a bottle of sparkling wine and a bottle of hard cider, our lawyer gave us a bottle of champagne, and our realtor gave us a gift card to the best restaurant in town.

In between loads, we are replacing all the locks and there are a lot of them.

You really don't need to know anything more than:
1. Where is the garage
2. where is the fridge
3. where is the TV
4. where is the bed

I’ll skip number three.

Mrs. C is already planning on changing out the appliances in the kitchen. Looks like I may already have a garage fridge.

It became apparent that the Chevy will need new front pads and rotors on our first load, so I guess that I will be paying a visit to that big NAPA. I actually will have a warm place to do it, for once.

Hah, ended up doing it in the driveway at the old place, in the driveway, in the rain. Figured it was easier and quicker than hauling tools and the compressor down to the new place.

Found out that we have a boatload of apple trees on the property. My current next door neighbor complained (it’s what he does) about how much work they are, while Mrs. C is going, “Homemade Apple Pies”. In the fall, though, there is the problem with Yellow Jackets aka, the assholes of the bee world. We shall see what happens.

Gah! Moving sucks. Still, I’ll take this ‘a load a day’ over the ‘move it all in one day’ like our last move was. I hurt for two weeks after that cluster.

Still, we are getting situated. Have trash pickup and mail set up. Mrs. C is still dallying on phone, tv, and internet. Several choices there and none of them good. She needs it, I don’t.

Mrs.C is on her own for the next two weeks. Harolds’ plan to keep me local until the end of the year fell flat. Washington state tomorrow and Quebec the following week. Bleah. Looks like a day or two in Iowa the following week, too. One year, ten months, twenty nine days.

So, I set up my three year older to the day than me Zenith Trans-Oceanic AM-SW tube radio in the big garage and have it tuned to the same AM classic rock station that's on the DeSoto radio. This is a seven year old pic.

It has that wonderful old AM tube radio sound to listen to. The local station plays SOME old Christmas music, maybe one or two an hour. Not the 24/7 we are inundated with on what passes for FM now. Anyway, to stop the old guy rant, while swapping out the carb on the snow blower, a very very old version of Silver Bells comes on. Bing Crosby and Bob Hope old. I was suddenly six years old, sitting in the backseat of my parents 1959 Rambler wagon, on the annual Christmas trip to my grandparents farm in Eau Claire, WI.

Funny how an old song can do that.

Still slowly moving in. Mrs. C was actually glad I was gone for a few days. She can go at her own pace then.
TV and internet going in tomorrow. We are going with Dish and HughesNet as AT&T isn't readily available outside of town. After the last 10 days dealing with the lousy customer service we got from AT&T, we're leaving them after 41 years. Sucky part is we will have to memorize a new phone number.
Moving the Ural down tomorrow and finally going to the night there. Going to have the grandsons spend the night, too. Pizza, popcorn, and Svengoolie.
