PCV for Hawk

I've seen several people mention installing a PCV on their Hawks but no mention of the part number they used. Auto parts stores are too lazy to match a PCV to hose size.

What PCV do you recommend? Preferably one that same size hose fitting on both sides as I'm keeping the air box for now.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Auto parts store always want to know what car/truck it is for. Maybe you can go to a junkyard, find one that will fit, go to the store and get a new one just like it. Or if you find one that fits the hose you take with you, write down the year and make and model, trans type, and number of cylinders. Hook it up so it lets air out, but won't let air in.

Okay, i am feeling really dumb here. Maybe it is a combo of being up at 2:30am and high blood sugar that is having me have a brain fart, but what is a PCV, and why are people putting them on the Hawk 250? I am curious as a potential Hawk 250 owner in the future.

Positive Crankcase Ventilation. PCV. A PCV on a motorcycle engine reduces air pumping losses. Air pumping takes power that could be otherwise employed. It reduces air pumping losses the same way as as the crankcase vent valve on previous motorcycles. Harley-Davidson uses a rotary valve for this purpose. Ariels used a ball bearing in a cage to do this. The PCV unit is an inexpensive way to get positive crankcase ventilation on an engine that doesn't have one. Like the Hawk. A secondary benefit is less pressure on the seals. Also better engine oiling. And, for pcspecialist, it reduces the oil getting into the air filter element.

What size hose is the hose on the HAWK?

If the size is different than what is on my Bashan... I might be able to find you a few PCVs that work (I'm really good friends with the Manager at an Auto parts store)... but it will have to be on 'our free time', as in, no other customers in the store so we can go PCV hunting
