Hawk: make starter work when not in neutral

Has anyone already defeated the neutral safety? If so, care to share how?

It was simple to do on my Bashan (WILL 200) and Kawasaki (KLR 650), however I never share this type of info with people for a few reasons...

1) it's already been covered several places all over the internet...

and the biggest reason I encourage everyone else to 'also not give this kind of info' is...

2) I'm not about to get blamed/sued for any "safety switch bypass accident"...

It's easy to do and the info is out there and just as easy to find... just apply the knowledge from one of the "big 4 brands" to your "China Bike" if you want to bypass those safety/annoyance switches.

Every other bike I've owned either had no safety or it was tied to the clutch, not neutral. This is a first for me.

That's exactly what I'm saying...... stall the damn thing at an intersection and I have to rock the damn thing to get it in neutral before I can start it. Apparently they were too cheap to put a switch in to see that the clutch was in so they compromised and used the switch that lights the neutral light.

I guess I'll have to trace it out myself, was hoping someone would be able to say which color wire I need to disconnect and connect to a constant power source.

That's weird... It shouldn't do that. Mine will start in gear no problem. When did you purchase your hawk? I wonder if they changed the design.

I will mess around with mine tomorrow morning, is it possible a bad clutch switch would do this? Or maybe the wiring isn't connected properly?

I could see if the bike doesn't know that the clutch is pulled in, it wouldn't let you start until its in neutral.

Try shorting the two wires that attach to the clutch lever and see if it will start. Ill see what I can gather tomorrow from my bike.

I just assumed there was no clutch switch..... thanks for telling me there should be. I'll check for one tomorrow.

well, screw waiting for tomorrow. Sure enough, there is a clutch switch and it is open no matter what, no continuity.

Hopefully! Simple fixes are always the best. (I noticed mine were loose when I got it) Order doesnt matter.

Dang, well, you could use this opportunity to upgrade your levers, or modify the wires in such a way that im not describing, to enable the bike to start. Lol

I was thinking about ordering these:

If I were to upgrade, I'd upgrade to a hydraulic clutch.
