Which carb are you using on your Hawk

I am in the process of fine tuning my stock carb and once I've done so I will try whichever seems to be the most popular "Mikuni". I really don't think a "Mikuni" will make any difference, but, am willing to try.

Which carb are you using? Be specific, provide a link to where you purchased it.

Do you like it? What jets are you using? Idle mixture screw setting? Needle position? Elevation where your choice of jets seem to work best?

I really like it now that ive found out more about jetting through playing with the bike.

Im running a 110/25 combo right now, with the needle in the 4th position down, and the idle mixture somewhere. I had to play with the idle mixture on the bike to get it right, pulling it on and off repeatedly to fine tune the mixture wasnt an option for me. I set it to about 1.5 turns and played with it from there.

Im at 700ft, and my main seems a little lean, so I purchased a 112.5 main and that should be perfect.

Lots of power, sit down power wheelies in 1st gear, and stand up power wheelies in 2nd. I have topped my bike out at 65mph(GPS), with the 17t front sprocket.

I agree completely, the only thing likely wrong with the stock carb is the improper jets. Get that figured out and your'e done IMO. This whole idea of witching to a mikuni "clone" was based on the availability of jets, not that it is a superior carb...

I've had a slew of china bikes that all ran well with the stock carbs, nothing wrong with them if they are jetted properly imo.

I put this on with whatever size jets W&G suggested.

I am running the mikuni knock-off like the one posted previously. I'm currently running at 117.5 main and 30 pilot with the pilot screw 1.33 turns out. I have the needle set at the second clip. I am at approx 800 ft elevation.

Mine is running rich. I plan to at least go back to a 115 and perhaps even a 112.5. for the pilot I will try something the next size down as well.

I think a carb is a carb. the stock one is probably fine but I decided to go with the Mikuni because others had posted on here about the base setup. given that my carb experience was previously ZERO, I thought that would be easiest starting point for me. I plan to drill and tinker with my stock one at some point, but it's down the list of priorities right now.

I would say you should have good luck with whatever you choose. One thing though, definitely make sure you open the carb and clean it out thoroughly! I didnt, and later found metal shavings from manufacturing jammed in the idle screw and idle mixture adjustment.

Carb cleaner anda good visual inspection should give you a good result.

The eBay seller I bought mine from still doesn't have anymore Mikuni Carbs for sale, but assured me when they do finally get them in, they will be the same price that I paid a month or so back: $29.95 shipped for a 'Generic/Unbranded' "30mm VM26 Mikuni" Carburetor with 100 main 20 pilot/slow jet.

Like mq1991 said, take apart and clean it out after you receive it... there's a reason we are getting the Carbs soo cheap, clean-up before shipment doesn't come with the low price tag.

Also... be warned... the Carb Bowl Gasket on these will either swell/grow in size or shrink/get hard/crack if exposed to most Cleaner(s)... remove the gasket before you clean it out with anything and that will save you $4 or more in the cost of a new gasket
